Now the first question is what do u call a modern OS? Is it the UI?? Well if it is the UI you are correct, but in reality it is more about the system itself than the UI. You cant call an OS advanced because of how it looks.. can you look at a ford and say it is advanced because it looks nice? The UI structure of symbian, avkon is what has been giving it a bad name. The avkon framework will be dumped in a year's time and replaced with a more flexible structure based on Qt. Some guy argument about SymbianOS not being able to compete with 'more advanced os' is flawed.
Tell me what does android and the iphone os has other than the ui that is more advanced than SymbianOS?? SymbianOS is the os not the UI. Iphone's os is so crippled it cant even multitask nor do we have access to the file system, do u call that advanced??? !!!
The iphone os suffers from a critical power management issue because of how the os handles the memory and processor, is that advanced??? !!! Android os can only run up to 6 apps in the background before it starts closing down no matter how much ram is available, i can run 28 apps on my N95 8GB without 1 closing. Not that any1 needs 28 apps open but the point is that the android os is so darn dumb that it cant look on the ram available and decide whether or not to shut down a certain app, the limit has to be set by default. Now SymbianOS have far superior power and ram management than any other Os available whether it might be iphone, java-smartphone os or a bunch of webpage running on a linux webserver that is called an OS. I dare you to argue with me on this one; SymbianOS is the most advanced os out now. The only problem is the UI which will be fixed.
ALL part of the iphone 4 ui is taken from exgeneration iphone especially the icons!!! Not be changed..and maybe not chan ged ever..bored ui with lame/outdated features..Nothing else is similiar between the two so get curves straighten before attemped to inform the general public..

nokia fan has to realise what the others are ranting about. they arenut directly ranting about the specs alone, they are comparng specs with price. yes, u guys make sense that the phone need not have great specs to work smooth but what the others are trying to say is with such inferior hardware, from screen to processor, why is the nokia phone still priced at the same price as galaxy s which obviously has a more inferior hardware inside. don mention the casing as we all know the most expensive parts in a phone is the screen and processor.

Tell me when did you get the lucky chance to use the n8 and for the hardware part...well whats the use of 1ghz and 512mb ram blah blah if your os can easily run efficiently in a normal 680mhz processor and 256mb ram, lots of people demand huge processing speed and huge ram while they forget that the os is the one that plays a key part in determining how fast and smooth the phone runs. A good example is the samsung omnia hd which had very powerfull hardware at that time ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR
SGX graphics
But by the way how symbian^1 was buggy at that moment the phone was brought down to the same level as the flop and buggy n97's performance and it is still surpased by the nokia 5800 running the latest v50.0.005 but with custom firmwares you can easily see how superior the omnia hd is when compared to the n97,5800.

but they don't undertand that the OS play the Biggest part in a phone the hardware after

30 sec boot ... moreMate, I really agree with you but as I can see from most comments, people here are dumb. They just know one thing: More powerfull processor and more RAM= faster phone!
They won't consider how much of it OS consumes right after boot up and what lefts for user. On Android 2.2, usable RAM is just 170 MB (if total is 512). You can hardly run resource hungry 5-6 applications at a time. On Symbian^1 128 MB RAM device, usable memory after boot up is around 60MB and you can again run atleast 5 heavy applications on that availlable resources. Further, phone speed matters more on OS optimization. 434Mhz is enough for S^1 and you can see C6 is much faster than 5800 XM since OS on former is gone through more optimization. It uses its resources more efficiently.
So now I fail to undertand how the hardware on N8 is pitty/outdated. It may be incase its running Android but be more real, its not.

Honestly, apart from larger super AMOLED screen and eye candy OS, I can't find anything better in Galaxy S. Processor and RAM configuration does't matter to me unless OS is properly optimized with it and I can run atleast 6 applications at a time. But that that I can do even on N97. Why won't N8?

30 sec boot and the latop is dual booted as well
linux is the lightest OS ever made with alot of customization
it's only missing alot of drivers cause it's open source the big guys want money so small fees are paid but
yet agian for the user it comes out free
core duo 2 @ 2ghz w/ 3gb DDR2 RAM windows lags and loads like garbage
linux 10.04 loads in seconds which i using to write this message
and firefox is pro on linux since it's open source as well XD

Anyone forgot the difference between plastic casing and anodized aluminium body? Later is scratch resistant and even it gets scratched by hard shot, one can wipe it out! And yes, later is equipped with highly scratch and break resistant Gorilla glas. For me, these points highly matter so the durability.

Symbian's purpose of existence is to run fast in low specs. Go play with other OS that need twice much amount of memory and processor speed to do the same thinks with N8, like HD recording and pay them in higher price. Its like pc. A system with linux run faster in same hardware than windows. Got it?
The symbian 3^ has about 60% new code than the old one, also has the the QT. So its the only Symbian that have compatibility with Symbian 1^ and the future Symbain 4^ apps. Thats why the keep the nHD resolution on screens. So people can run the old symbian apps in their new devise. Its a paspartu OS for easy transition to the Symbian 4^.
