Anonymous, 02 Jun 2016Nobody cares about Spain (ok .. nobody outside of Spain at least).. When it is coming to UK?
... moreIf you were missing out by any chance... UK is has the most banks in EU and probably 70% of banking goes via UK. That said if Uk is supported, Samsung Pay can cover probably 70% of payments in EU...
Obviously, they probably need to have separate agreements with lets say Barclays UK and Spain, or Santander UK and Spain... but when one is reached in UK, the other in inferior branch would be much easier to agree.
Problem with UK is that majority of higher earning people usually have crapple and therefore don't understand need/benefit to support Samsung.
Linas, 02 Jun 2016No actually only banks needs to support it - in comparison both banks and retailer needs to su... moreYou're absolutely correct - & the answer to your final question is simple- it's called MARKETING. It's just another spin on generating more profit for Samsung via free advertising.
When is this EVER coming to Canada???
it has to start in Spain first cos its the best place to shake it down. Spain is crap at customer service and its people are used to waiting for things to work....
I was looking forward to this in the uk then realised my note 4 wasn't supported.
Linas, 02 Jun 2016Nobody cares about Spain (ok .. nobody outside of Spain at least).. When it is coming to UK?! ... moreIt's the banks agreeing to Samsung's terms, not Samsung or the hardware.
Samsung will not roll it out if only a few banks are "on board" in a particular country. This would make Samsung Pay look bad and tarnish it's pretty good reputation of being the most compatible tap-to-pay solution available.

Yuri84, 02 Jun 2016Wait, what? My bank is not supported?
I thought Samsung Pay worked independe... moreNo actually only banks needs to support it - in comparison both banks and retailer needs to support Android Pay and Apple pay, which is kind of deal breaker...
The idea behind Samsung pay is that it is hardware feature and as long as bank who issued your car supports it you can pay with it anywhere (literally like with your card). e.g. if car is accepted by Caixa and you hold Caixa card on you Samsung pay.. you should be able to go to Mexico, Poland or Burkino Faso and pay at any car terminal as if you have physical card... The is the main advantage over other mobile payment services...
What I don't understand what is that stupid deal with some local retailers...
Nobody cares about Spain (ok .. nobody outside of Spain at least).. When it is coming to UK?! Secondly, what is all this "support" deal? As far as I know Samsung pay is "hardware feature" which works regardless of retailer support emulating the card as if it is real card (even work where only 80s style are available, that technology used prior chip&pin and you swipe card and sign)... Why do they need some crappy department store to support it? Samsung pay should work everywhere out of the box as long as you bank supports it ( or rather signs agreement with Samsung to pay them few% of transaction)? Or am I missing something?
ollyb1, 02 Jun 2016when did sampay launch in the UK?i think its a mistake, no launch yet and i work in a phoneshop
Wait, what? My bank is not supported?
I thought Samsung Pay worked independently from banks, was a simple tech that allowed me to use my phone in place of credit card. Bummer.
