Updating to latest OS will lock your phone again. If you've unlocked and have problems you can always restore to original OS from itunes. Unlocking Iphone4 is almost useless unless your alternate carrier uses MicroSIM. Can still Jailbreak Iphone4 and enjoy as long as you're holding it right........

Ahem... Strange this happens just on pair with antennagate and I believe apple is behind it. If you unlock the iphone4 you'll loose the warranty and maybe that's just what apple wants: then there is no way to return it and get your money back if the bad antenna is not working, cause it's unlocked now!!! After all we have seen, apple is capable of doing this. Caution!

To all apple users bare in mind that apple is just only pleasing you all coz they cannot fix the antenna problem that is why they have an alternative apps! Aka as ultrasnow, to forget whats the real issue or how to fix the antenna problem, apple Are very smart when it comes to brainwashing peoples mind... its just a gimik hallerrr apple fix first of what u have started, aka " default antenna"

If I jailbreak my iphone 3G, if I update it later with ios 4.1(for example) will it be locked again? I want to jailbreak it, and if I want to lock it again I will do the update.

It's the NETWORKS that request for the iPhone to be unlocked.

Here in London at the Apple Regents Street store, Apple will happily sell you an officially unlocked iPhone 4. But if you want a network specific iPhone 4 (cheaper) then it is locked to that network at the network's request.

Might as well give the consumer at the preset an unlocked version like other manufacturers. By locking the handset, Apple is not only being ridiculous but also encouraging an overpriced market for their phones in unofficial outlets.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2010why can't Apple spare us all the trouble and release these phones unlocked. Is it really that ... moreNot everyone is a fan of unlocking or jailbreaking their devices. A lot are quite happy and contented with their locked iphones. Also, you have peace of mind and a sense of security when you pplay by the rules. W/ locked iphones, you get a better deal with a contract, versus paying a full priced unlocked iphone and open your device to vulnerabilities that might compromise performance and quality that could even invalidate your warranty. It's a choice, and there are risks in making that choice. At least now, it's legal to jailbreak and unlock the iphone, but then, Apple may not be able to help you if ever something goes wrong with your iphone.
