exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Its quite funny how you say I need to cope with reality. However it is you that seems to be ou... morewell you clearly dont know what a smartphone is!
And no, S40 isnt considered smartphone, and is not in the statistics.
Please you really need a realitycheck!
iOS, is badly missing features that a smartphone should have.
And android did untill recently.
filetransfer via bluetooth, file manager, drag and drop transfer.
S60 have been a smartphone OS since the beginning! Sure for a while there was definitons of phones using smartphone os, where candybar qwerty products were messengers, flip up qwerty products were communicators, and touchscreen devices called smartphones... 0-9 keyboard phones with smartphone OS didnt really fit in, but nokia made them break in to the smartphone definiton, and then we gave up messengers and communicators as separate categories, and all smartphone OS running devices since have been called smartphones. The definition has not changed since.
And however much you may like the iPhone or a Android device over a nokia device, that still does not change the definition. And the real question is, what can the device do! A 5800 pretty old one, can do prety much everything you can with a galaxy S, and iphone 4, in some aspects it might be slower... but apps are not a part of the smatphone definiton, so caountin the amount of apps has nothing to to with the capabilities of the phone. And actually the 5800 has better multitasking than Galaxy S or iphone 4, thaks to its OS.
Android before 2.2 could be argued not to be smartphones.
iPhones, can still be argued not to be smartphones.
No symbian device (motorola, ercsson, Sony Ericsson included), ever made could be argued not to be a smartphone, so please give ut that BS!

re: clock cycles...
assuming 2 chips have as efficient an architecture as eac... moreWhy would the hands on experience with N8 or N9 be the same as 5230?
The N8 have an updated version of Symbian. Its more smooth, and have some new features. Nokia have been working on the big issue with s60 5th edition, the single click/doubble click thing. they have somewhat updated the looks of the OS. But if you want more eyecandy, get the SPB mobile shell for symbian^3 (when its out). Sure you can get it for 5230 as well, but the lack of a GPU in that mobile, makes it look more dull than on Vivaz, Omnia HD, satio... The N8 got a GPU.
The hardware of the phone also gives it a different feel in the hand. And it you run out of memory when browsing with the 5230, the N8 have more ram.
N9 will run a different OS, with a much different feeling to it, than Symbian S60 or symbian^3.
Start by trying the N900, you will realize its very different, sure N9 will offer yet another feel to it, but the N900 can make you realize that Nokia is not only symbian. I like the feel of the N900, and i dont mind that they take you to the multitask before the menu. the N900 have a total of 1GB ram, included virtual ram. So there is no risk of low memory messages on that one either. The N9, will probably have at least 512MB of dedicated ram, perhaps even 1GB.
So the hands on experience will be nothing of the same sort.
Sure, it might not be to your liking, but it will be nothing like the 5230 wih either one... even if the N8, will look somewhat similar.
exNokiaFan, 20 Aug 2010wow why are you getting hostile.
1. This isn't a nokia N9 forum, this is a comment section... more1 If you just disslike Nokia, and want to post it, please keep to a forum of your favourite brand. The disslike of a brand, by no reason gives you the right to comment on this in a forum. If you have something concrete to say, please do, but just posting disslike is not a welcome disussuion.
2 you dont get it, Symbian does not require as much in hardware as Android and iOS does.
Resistive touchscreen has many advantages over cpacative, so please stop posting BS.
What happend to Maemo? Well, instead of competing, Intel and Nokia decided to converge their OSes in to one. And no, Maemo was not the supposed saviour of nokia. Nokia is doing well, and focusing on many markets. Still leader in worldwide sales, by a large margin, still leader in smartphone sales!
please get a realiycheck and then you are welcome back... or if you dont want to do that, keep to a forum where people care about your missinformed hatered for Nokia, I think the Android and Apple forums will welcome you.
deep space bar, 20 Aug 2010i was doing all that on my 5800 and my buddy was doing it on his n95 lol it's not hard I know! I'm using all of this now on my current E71 and the N9 as my future phone! LOL
Can't do all of this on iphone or BB so, Nokia it is! :)

but mobile 10.1 gives me full RAM errors sometimes
Anonymous, 20 Aug 2010LiMo is a mobile platform i havent used ... yet.
After having used WinMO, Android and Symbi... morethis is not LiMo, this is MeeGo.
Sure, both are linux based, but they are different OSes.
And Symbian cant do all, that MeeGo can do. Symbian is not a full fledged computer OS, MeeGo is. If you think of it in terms of mobile features, they are pretty much the same, but when you think of it in terms of computer features, symbian lags behind.
MeeGo is showing us the future of smartphones, actually mobile computers. HDMI out, USB-host or at least USB-On-the-go, BT keyboard and Mice support, that turns a MeeGo device in to a full blown computer if you dock it to a HDMI monitor.
KARTIKEYA, 20 Aug 2010if this n9 then it runs on symbian 3 yaa!.check out the videos on techno buffalo and youtube.t... moreWhy do people keep confusing this for the one seen on techno buffalo???
Its not even the same design, so why would it be the same device?
On the back, the makera looks different.
the front looks different.
the keyboard sliding is different, this time the whole front flips up, on the one och techno buffalo, its only the screen.
And the keyboard looks different.
And a lot of other details are different.

dav, 19 Aug 2010why don't you stop talking rubbish?every manufacture is now having kinetic scrolling and cover... morenot even that.
Coverflow, the first time I saw it was on Singstar, perhaps someone did it before, but singstar was long before iPhone...
And kinetic scrolling was on Neonode.

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2010I am so getting this phone!!! I was initially planning to grab the N8, but i was a bit let dow... moreHonestly, don't see this one out by december. Q1 next year is my guess.
I just wanted you guys to know that the photo with the screen saying it's connected via usb is really still connected via the hdmi cable. Maybe it's real maybe it's not but I hope it has more than 1ghz processing speed and ram that is more than 512mb. Imagine what we could do with that! The best phone for me would probably be a phone that would do everyhing. I wouldn't have to get out of bed. A phone that would allow me to lock my doors, control the ac, control everything in the house, play emulated games from modern consoles, have an electric lighter, and maybe if they could find a way to increase the size of the 3.5mm hole let's say to about 1.2 inches (expandable) I would also be able to make love to it (set on vibrate of course). I already told my wife that it wouldn't be cheating if you do it to a machine (unless if you do it with joan rivers in about 10 years). In the future they are just gonna be big contact lenses covering the whole inside of the eye. Who needs hologram. And how am I gonna watch porn in public if its in hologram (although it would be nicde in private, thats what you call POV).
wow, nokia takes himself more high brand mobile.it's incredible beautiful cell phones.
exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Well the reason why the Galaxy S doesn't have a flash for its camera is because the camera is ... moremy friend own galaxy and i have noticed only 326 RAM instead of 512 in task manager.it even lags sometimes.i do like samsung galaxy of its super amoled.but browser crashes when u open engadget site.many apps dont work or crashes while u try open.there r flaws in all the phones.we wont be getting a perfect phone.its our choice to spend the money on good quality phone.lets not argue which phone is better n bad.all phones are good in their own unique way.by the way i own htc desire.
I am so getting this phone!!! I was initially planning to grab the N8, but i was a bit let down because of the OS. Now, this thing, which looks almost as N8, has the slide-out keyboard and MeeGo...WOW, i just got to have one as soon as it hits the stores, hopefully in December 2010! BTW there is so much beyond the app store with MeeGo, since i believe MeeGo will have a similar Application Manager to Maemo. I believe the future of mobile computing lies in MeeGo (its freakin linux after all)!
exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Well the reason why the Galaxy S doesn't have a flash for its camera is because the camera is ... morewhen u take a stand by saying that combine nokia and intel doesnt make a winner, but it can be otherside as well.say it can be winner.we should wait till it release rather than if n but.i guess all these gr8 devices makes people to have more variety of choice.people who want all features like camera social networks media hdmi will prefer n8 with simplicity symbian OS.

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010thats the funny part. Even though nokia uses less cutting edge tech, their products are still ... moreFirslt, you indeed misunderstood my statement, I didn't say hardware doesn't matter, never said it!
I just said S^3 needs less resources than other OSes, that's why there's only a 680MHz CPU and 256MB RAM, and with those S^3 runs smoothly .. so why should Nokia put a 1GHz CPU? plz some1 tell me!
Second, Android runs from a VM, it's called Dalvik .. it seems you who needs to go to XDA and learn more about Android :)
