They are not the same chip, they are manufactured by IBM at one point however the CPU in the 360 is a PPC(Power PC) while PS3 is a cell processor. They need to be ported because of proprietary dk(developer kits) used by both company. However once a code has been made porting it to another is very simple. Case in point Final Fantasy XIII for the xbox 360 was a quick ported version of the PS3. It wasn't made from the ground up.

We all will!!!

It costs like 1/8 the price of lets say a Galaxy S .
But feature wise.. does the Samsung have any major advantages to comprehend for this huge price?
- They both have great audio quality..
- They both have good signal strengths and call quality. HINT!
- They both have features like Skype-ing, Facebook, Video calls, Flash videos.
-They both run videos well. The Samsung screen is better but the Nokia one is not at all bad.
- They both have a huge load of 3rd party apps.
The only advantages of the Samsung would be a better camera (3.2MP of 5530 is not bad though), better screen and a flashy UI.

Reason why N900 will never receive this update? Because its not a mass market seller. Why would Nokia spend time and resource on something that barely sold 100,000 units currently? Would you as a company spend resources to do something for a product that didn't sell well?

On Meemo this was not so....The Meemo Ovi maps did not have a navigation feature built in and adding one would have been quite a re-coding.
The Xbox and PS are both built very similar, they even have the same chip (IBM-made I think) They still need porting for games to work on one another.
This is not the same between Meemo and Symbian... They run on different chips and have totally different architectures. Meego is a rebuild of Lunix and very different from Pison from which Symbain was developed form.

I never mentioned anything about becoming extinct. I even said so when I admit that they do have a 41% marketshare in "smartphones" However I said they cant compete when comparing similar products against other companies which no one here has yet to give a rebuttal including facts.

They both run on Ovi maps, N97 received an update allowing free voice navigation. UPDATE. They did not re code an entire new navigation. It was a mere simple update allowing users of certain phones to by pass subscription base. Do you really think it would cost that much to do the same for N900? NFS shift does work on the PS3 as it does on the Xbox 360. Its just a simple port, did you really think EA made an entire different version for PS3 and 360?

As for Flash 10... Symbian^3 runs any flash 10 video perfectly..
Infact even my Symbian^1 5800 runs most of them well.
On the other hand... Only a handful of Android phones have so far got the 2.2 update so most of them does not have full Flash.
I don't get this statement.."when Android has a competent music/video player as well"
- I see no problems even with the 5800 Playback capability (except for the lack of avi support!)
Anyway... This topic is about Meego...and as you know even Meemo could do full Flash easily and run any video you throw at it...and with this N9, things will only get better!

Sure, I am a bit biased since I am an Nokia owner and plan to continue in that direction. Many people are satisfied with their Nokias, I don't know what your problem is.
If you are implying that Nokia will somehow become extinct in a few years due to the massive growth of Android handsets then I think you are wrong.

Yes they both run Ovi maps...But each of haeve been created to run on their specific OS. N97 Ovi Maps runs on Symbian, N900 Ovi Maps runs on Meego.
By your statement... Shouldn't the NFS shift for PS3 run on an Xbox 360?
Anyways the new QT code developed by Nokia should solve this problem... Developers will be able to easily create multi platform apps.
Anonymous, 21 Aug 2010From the multimedia side.... What Whoo and ahhs does a Android device provide over the N8??exactly thats the point, it doesn't differ much so why would anyone buy a lesser capable device when Android has a competent music/video player as well? Also some Android manufactures has built in support for AVI. Does Symbian^3? Android browser supports flash 10 with Froyo. Froyo makes android phones more intuitive, better over all user experience. That is the category in which Symbian^3 is lacking.
exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010thats what alot of people said when the N900 was about to be released too no? If performance w... moreS^3 doesn't fail to perform. What they complained about is the user interface. Not the os incore. In simpler english what they meant is "its not flashy". "it has on wow". Thats not productivity. Anyways, even s^1 has some "wow" to it with apps like spd shell.
The n900 did what it was meant to do. Test the viability of a new high end platform and surf the internet. It was an experiment. Nokia doesn't deny that. I never looked at it twice.
Anonymous, 21 Aug 2010The reason N900 did not get the navigation update was because it runs a totally different OS..... morethat is a load of crock, both the N900 and N97 run OVI maps. Nokia initially didn't give the N97 free Ovi navigation, however they did in the end because the user base was much larger than N900.

yeah, 21 Aug 2010for an x nokia fan, you sure are a blabber mouth. Why is it that gsmarena hasn't had any first... morethe prototype leak of N8 was around april. The pocket-lint review was mid june. The phone is supposedly being released soon so its safe to say that the June review may have be a near production line prototype. Its main complain was not hardware but OS. Do i have to be a nokia fan to voice my opinion that the N9 will not deliver seeing that the N97, N900, and possibly N8 will not have deliver? Nokia is said to be ditching Symbian completely after N8 and focusing only on MeeGo for their flag ship. Doesn't this tell you to not expect anything great from the N8? Do you want the N8 for its cameras? I can assure you that you're better off with a Canon Point and shoot if you're only in it for photography. Media capability wise Symbian^3 shows no significant wows and Oohs over competitors like android and iOS.
exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Once again you let your fanboyism blind you. Apple may have shrunk when you re talking about m... moreThe reason N900 did not get the navigation update was because it runs a totally different OS...Thus it would have been a total redo. Nokia did not commit to this as the Meego update was coming and thus any update to Meemo was useless. Once Meego is complete, then N900 users will be able to get the navigation update along with the change to Meego. In any case, With some ingenuity..I am sure if any N900 was so desperate for navigation, they could hack in Android and it's navigation services to their awesome device.

If performance was the point of the Symbian OS then why does Symbian^3 fail in that department? The article is as you said positive when it comes to some hardware aspects such as the camera. However it fails to compete when it comes to the OS. Maemo was suppose to be revolutionary too wasn't that what alot of people said? infact I believed Maemo was awesome that was the primary reason why i bought the N900 only to be sorely disappointed.
I just read the pocket-lint preview. While i can't but say it seemed quite short and unprofessional, its positive. The only down they could point out was s^3 not being revolutionary. Revolutionary in the sense that it doesn't add anything new to mobile os usability but rather only incorporates old features lacking in previous versions. In their words, symbian is still not as easy to navigate as the ios or android. This is understandable. Infact why would anyone expect any different? Symbian from scratch is designed to be minimalistic. To run on the cheapest hardware! Functionality over form. Performance is prime. Its not meant to be flashy and hence is not a proper high end os. Thats where meego comes in. The priorities are different with symbian and 'others'. Thats what you have to understand.
nomorese, 21 Aug 2010Sorry but you seem to missing the big point here. You speak about profitability as something v... moreOnce again you let your fanboyism blind you. Apple may have shrunk when you re talking about market share, however this was not stolen by Nokia. It was stolen by Android, and its only natural to assume android would take up these market share, because Android is just an OS, its employed by many cell phone manufacturers. I'm sorry that you seem to have missed the point. You seem to have mistaken me as an apple fan boy or something since you keep on implying about how apple will eventually lose market share completely. I never said anything about apple, I always talked about comparable phones as whole. Whether it be Galaxy S, Motorola Droid/Milestone. I only said that Nokia does not have a product that can compete. Sale figures matters very importantly to both company and consumer. If sale figures were slow and shabby phone manufacturers would be less inclined to put forth efforts to update or support the phone at all. Case in point the Nokia N900 did not receive the free navigation update even though the N97 did? Why was this you figure? the N900 was their latest and greatest phone. Primary reason was because of sale figures. The N97 sale figures completely overshadowed the N900's.
exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Also if you read any of my comments they were never about profitability it was always performa... morefor an x nokia fan, you sure are a blabber mouth. Why is it that gsmarena hasn't had any first preview of the n8 or n9 for that matter? It is because it is a prototype. We will never know what kind of performance will be until it is commercially available (final tweaking needed to get the most out of the hardware). I would rather listen to unbiased gsmarena than to sites with a record of nokia hating.
