Dont think BB OS will stay that strong.
With Apple it seems like they took the market grow in to calculations, calculating that iOS will not expand as much as the market.
I dont think BB can keep up at all.
The biggest part of the smartphone expasion comes from users outside of the business market, and for those BBs are not trendy, they were, for att short perod of time, and some might still buy on that account.
Of course there are people defending iOS.
And even i Doubt that the fall will be that hard.
But they have to realize, that as the market grows, apple needs to ship a whole lot of more devices, just to keep their current position. And that, i dont think apple will be able to do.
And for some the buzz over iphone has gotten competition by Samsung and HTC. I see more and more trendy girls with those phones. that means there is some competition in whats the device t have.
But not being the only device to have for treandy people, anymore, is going to result in further drop for iOS.
But the Apple brand in 2014 will probably still be strong ehough to get them more shares than that prediction... if Apple dont start licensing iOS to other manufactors, a fall cant be avoided.
It's funny how they singled out ios to decline. I don't know what crystal ball they're using for their predictions, but anyway, they're wrong.
Android will of course have global dominance in market share. Symbian will still be the device of choice (due to affordability) in developing countries, competing with android. Ios and android will still compete in regulated countries like the US, Europe, and a couple of Asian countries. Ios, rim and win7 will be head to head in the business world. And the iphone will still be the most desired device among all of them.
Not in thouch with technology over there.
Its seems very unlikely.
They totaly missed MeeGo in the calculations, and only Nokia should account for more than 4.5% of world market smartphone shares with MeeGo, and there should be some other guys jumping the train as well.
These predictions completely confirm my thoughts.
These percentages don't show symbian dropping. On the other hand, they show it flourish. I expect mobile os development to have reached some sort of equilibrium by 2014. Moore's law can't possibly carry on forever. Symbian would forever remain the worlds number one os. Why? Cuz it runs on the cheapest fuck'n hardware! Plus, it supports nontouch. The decline in symbians share is not as a result of the os dying but rather as a result of the consumer base expanding. Symbian 4 life.
The android share speaks for itself. Its deserved.
I don't thing ios would have reached equilibrium by 2014. Its share would keep declining till it becomes one of the 'others' cuz thats what its supposed to be. Something designed to fit the needs of people with iqs below 70. By 2014, apple would be selling iphones only in america.
I totally disagree with the winmo data. Meego would completely kill winmo 7. I really don't expect windows mobile to get any new customers except if they somehow manage to get it in the market before meego or they cook up some means of tying their mobile phones to their pcs.
So they're essentially saying that market share will reach an equilibrium. Os with high percentage will fall and vice versa. But i don't think that will happen. These economist or analyst are shite. They never foresaw the economic crisis. Experts? Huh.
Anonymous, 09 Sep 2010I never said anything about being proud? It's just a phone store. Nothing to boast about there... moreits really not to try and convince people, i frankly couldnt care less about other peoples opinions i just like to make mine heard, its your choice what to think. you can hardly start talking about 'getting refunds' and 'returns' without the obvious mention that you work in a store! i do get what you mean about manufacturers being the issue here, but imo symbian is generally getting outdated due to ui's focussing more on eye candy these days and putting it to shame!
since when the market was so predictable?
Anonymous, 09 Sep 2010Not trying to be clever or anything there, just saying that I think Symbian is too glitchy for... moreI never said anything about being proud? It's just a phone store. Nothing to boast about there. I just meant the whole "trend" of people coming to GSMarena writing "i work at a phonestore" before their comment in a desperate attempt to sound convincing and well informed or something. Well, i think 99% doesn't buy that tactic.
I agree that N97 is bad hardware and PR nightmare for Nokia. Other than that Symbian has a good track record, specially in third world countries for over a decade.
I have hardly seen any of the E-series gone faulty, very rare. Also alot of other N-series devices like N82, N95, N96 etc has good track record.
Bashing Nokia for cause one their N-series phone came out wrong is hardly justice to a compnat that's been giving us good phone for 20 years.
Regarding the Sony Ericsson Vivaz with Symbian is just plain and simply Sony Ericsson themselves. This company must be worst in the world at intergrating software with hardware.
I got the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 first with Winmo 6.5 It was probably the laggiest, slowest and buggiest piece of s**t device i have ever used. I got so mad at Winmo cause i first thought it was the OS fault.
I went back to the store and wanted to change it, so they offered me the HTC HD2 with Winmo 6.5 .. You know what? Winmo 6.5 on HTC HD2 is probably the fastest, smoothest and most brilliant OS i have ever used.
Same OS, two different handset manufactures and different engineers can make night or day for a OS.
Have you seen the Samsung Symbian phones? They are great!
Arthur, 09 Sep 2010I work in a phone shop. Iphones dont really come back back faulty often. Neither do Android ha... morei work at phones4u and i totally agree! i would NEVER use a symbian phone unless it was e-series, even then only for reliability, graphic ui is still boring.
Anonymous, 09 Sep 2010Well i also work in a phonestore and almost all phones we get back for repair are iPhone and S... moreNot trying to be clever or anything there, just saying that I think Symbian is too glitchy for the general public. They get p***ed off, we get the abuse.
I dont boast I work in a phone store. To be honest, its not something Im particularly proud of. I wanted to be an astronaut.

(see how easy it is to just say you work in phonestore)
People tha actually work in phonestores don't come to GSMarena and write "i work in a phonestore........"
Stop the posers on GSMarena!
I work in a phone shop. Iphones dont really come back back faulty often. Neither do Android handsets. Symbian.... god. Theyre a nightmare.
I accept that people arent always familiar with how to get the best out of their phone but I get sick of seeing N97s and Vivaz phones repeatedly return to store to have ANOTHER software flash. The average user doesnt care about the operating system, they just want a phone that has neat features and doesnt freeze up. Symbian is a bit horrible for a lot of users. Id be happy to see it die.
Kierann, 09 Sep 2010The reason for this is plain and simple.
Android phones cover the entire market. The cheape... moreWhat the hell are you talking about? I am a WinMo user with HTC HD2 but saying that Symbian only come cheap or expensive is bull***t! Have you ever heard of Nokia best selling series? The E-series? For example E71? E72? E55? E52? etc etc... These are extremley high quality midrange phones with top of the range hardware. Symbian also covers the whole market.
Get a clue or get lost.. don't talk rubbish..
the prediction never say iOS will die.. just drop 25.8% after 4 year from now.. it still hold 10% of the market..
iOS is not dead okay??? don't see the % drop mean iOS going down.
I'm android user, I love android. just be realistic only.
Kierann, 09 Sep 2010The reason for this is plain and simple.
Android phones cover the entire market. The cheape... moreYou sir read my mind!
Spot on!
I'm an iPhone 3GS user and i don't like the iOS or iPhone 4 as much as i did earlier on in the year. I'm turning towards Android now more specifically the Samsung 1900 Galaxy S i like and the i'm hoping to go back my favourite OS Symbian and buy the Nokia N8
I'm really just bored of the iOS and the iPhone now.
its funny how many are saying Symbian is dead but according to that report it looks very much alive. so is it safe to say that those who are calling for Symbian's death are the Andoid and iOS users
This is both present market and predicting. iOS has lost lots of ground. Android has been eating Apple OS alive in 2010 so far. I read in Times that 37% of the iPhone users hase jumped ship to Android and 90% of those 37% where people who git the iPhone 4, returned it a Android device.
It was only a matter before Apples wanna be smartphone scam was shot down. People have actuallty started to get educated.
The reason for this is plain and simple.
Android phones cover the entire market. The cheapest android phones are like £100 Pay as you go, maybe even less. They are the absolute bottom end of the market for smartphones. Yet the best ones are £400-£450 meaning they fulfill the market. The great buys, like the Wildfire and the new Galaxy 3/Galaxy Apollo are all midrange. Android has a phone for just about every budget.
Symbian's phones come in two flavours. Dirty cheap or rip off expensive. the 5530 are dirt cheap and great phones, same for 5800 for what they offer. But the N97 mini is ridiculously expensive for its specs.
iPhone are always going to segregate because they are ridiculously expensive. Now don't give me all the rubbish about them being worth it, it doesn't matter. most people don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money in contracts to get one of the things.
Blackberry are niche market and always will be. The sales booms have been the youngens adopting them, it will pass once android is more affordable.
WinMo...needs a miracle. And even if it gets one, it will still be expensive end stuff.
