Okay, so you say Apple is the "best, most successful" phone company in the whole wide world. Get your facts straight boy, because it isn't so in most parts of the world. There are still literally millions in the world who would think otherwise. Apple hasn't gained ground on Asia yet, which is dominated by Samsung, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson. Europe has its decent balance of phones, but certainly not leaning towards the iPhone craze. The only major consumer market for it is the US, which is not representative of the global economy, you know.
And regarding iOS vs. Android, you are dead wrong. I have personally used an iPhone 3Gs (jailbroken) and own a Motorola Cliq (rooted, custom ROM) and I would say Android wins hands-down. The tweaks you can do to the open-ended software are so numerous it's not even funny. A jailbroken iPhone can only do so much, but basically the architecture of the operating system itself prevents any further enhancement on both a software and hardware level.
The only advantage right now of the iPhone is its App Store, which I would predict to be superseded by the Android App Market in 3-5 years. Android phones are so customizable that basically you can do everything with it; change system settings, overclock the CPU, create and publish widgets, patch up existing apps, etc. The iPhone is too limited compared to Android, really.

maybe ... moreMy guess for (new) Symbain being lame while still see little decline in smartphone market share is due to a simple reason....the almighty brand practically puts the Symbain (so called smart) OS in practially all of its phones, even the very low end ones like S40.
Though I always doubt these low end users ever use the "smart" functions of these phones, most of them only make calls / text using the phones within installing any program.
For example, 5230 sells for about US$186 unlock without contract. Yet most users of this phone I know only make calls / text, maybe browse the net a bit. The last thing you can ask these users is what Symbian is all about.

Most people I know despise - not desire an iPhon... moreAndroid are nothing more than cheap alternatives for the iphone. Android is for the masses. Of course it would have a greater market share than the iphone. Android is like symbian, only a bit better.
The fact that you despise the iphone, proves that it is the most desired phone, because you wouldn't despise it that much if it isn't desired by many :)

Most people I know despise - not desire an iPhone
The android phones are seen as much sleeker/nicer and are actually MORe desired by more people
as you can see by android > ios market share

Yes, I have read this article. This is a prediction. This is not to be taken as a fact. The fact is, Apple is worh way, way more than nokia as of the present time. Did you get that? Or are you going to close your eyes again and refuse to read all those articles that states that nokia has been losing money, and just live in your make believe world that nokia is doing great and have no financial decline whatsoever, lol.

I think the only inaccuracy in this will be Windows Mobile. I don't believe it will be all that successful.
On Apple market share, you must remember all of that is one high end phone that they charge a premium for. In terms of making money, they are doing it best.
I think iOS and Android will be the two pushing the boundaries in the smartphone market and would take something special from the other competitors to get themselves amongst that.

Although they're good references, but they're questionable. Who knows how old those data are. Anyways, here's a recent article showing that Apple is bigger than the rest, second only to Exxon. Btw, this is 2010 information, not who knows when from wikipedia.
