Woah this is a huge step for camera phones..then all other companies like canon, nikon, leica etc..will follow and be lending there lenses for cellphone makers.

Megapixel count and sensor development usually go hand in hand. I would assume that if Panasonic were to use their Lumix sensors, this would hold true.
Nokia are not experts at making cameras, Panasonic are. Panasonic are also excellent at making phones, indeed some of the best in market.

With the combined expertise I'm certain they will release something unique, pertaining to their high standards, this shouldn't be difficult.

Any 12mp phone delivers better quality images than any 8 mp phone did and so on. We all know there is more to it but it follows.

You can assume they're the best, but I'd stake my claim on the N82 being the best phone-cam to this day. Sure the MP count is lower, but that just supports your original idea. The N82 took pictures like it was a real digi-cam. Hell, even better than most "real" digi-cams.

Some of you excited Megapixel boffins are just plain stupid...don't you realise the bigger the megapixel doesnt mean the better quality of pictures you take. The most important thing to have in a camera is THE LENS & FLASH!!! The Satio & N8 Nokia by far have the best Lens' & flash on the market, regardless of when it did or soon to be realised it is. N8, for me as the Satio does not record Hd quality movies you can edit directly on the handset..without having to connect to a PC or MAC...but the N8 does.

When will you guys ever Learn!!!

                          5 mp is enough for an 8" x 6" print. My first digicam was a s/h Olly E20, gave me brilliant 8" x 6" prints from 5 mp on a 2/3" sensor.
You'll only benefit from 12+ mp if you habitually print bigger than A4.
I'll still likely upgrade to this 'phone but TBH I'd rather have about 8mp on this size sensor.

Dang it Panasonic I don't want a 13 megapixel camera phone! Give me one with less megapixels and a huge sensor coupled with a good, wide lens. If you want to compete with the N8, you should fulfill these premises!

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2010wot????!!! Ever heard of Panasonic Lx3 and Lx5 best digicams in the marketWell, the LX3 and LX5 are more for the consumer / mainstream market. I'm more interested in the higher industrial types; I'd prefer Nikon's DLSR range for night shooting (which is what I focus on) but then everyone has their tastes. Yeah, those LXes are decent models, well, over the majority of point and shoots...

Mind you, my first digital camera was a DSC-P10 by Sony, bought 8 years ago for US$500. I still have that, it's a good camera. It was one of the highest rated in Japan in the days by mainstream reviewers. Granted it's inferior to the LX, but that still rivals most other cameras today. I use the Sony NEX3 with some seperate lens pieces, and taking into account my financial status, that does a very nice job without breaking the bank.
