Who cares... they never really supported their symbian device user anyway.
I bought samsung inov8 for 2 years and never really get any official firmware update from them before.
I guess they are transitioning and focusing on improving their own OS and the others they are currently using. Having too much platforms to work with would prove to be too much expense and time consuming. So I guess this is a drastic move by Samsung for the better.
"Should we start worrying they might as well ditch Android or even WP7 in a year or two?"
yes. this is what manufacturers do. take Nokia/Maemo, for instance.
samsung just proved they are selfish.no respect for customers.what will users of omnia hd and other phones users do.
the thing is they just want their own os which bada to grow that means in year u will heard that they will drop android and windows as well....
they proved they suck samsung suks big time.u should stick 2 home appliances only........
no more samsung for me xd
welcome iphone nokia sony ericsson htc and motorola
trust me dont buy samsung u wont get their support
why i have the i8910 they high end symbian phone.. they stopped supporting that about a year ago.. no new firmwares.. other than hacked custom firmwares by users.. they are not putting out any new symbian phones.. so why support it if they are not supporting the older p hones with it.. at least they see the handwriting on the wall that android is the future unlike nokia.
Nokia created the Symbian Foundation in 2008 to manage Symbian, and later it planned an open source version of the OS. There were many challenges in releasing the open source version of what was a proprietary operating system... but in February the Foundation was able to announce that the open source code version was available... maybe it's a smart move by SE and Samsung to leave Nokia alone with symbian...
First Sony Ericsson and now Samsung? wow Nokia
may finally turn to Android!
scoopyscoopy, 01 Oct 2010I think this is totally horrible and irresponsible. Bada and android are good but dropping and... moreI don't know... I think there might be more to it that just what it appears! The speed at which this is happening suggests there's something going on that we don't know (at least now!)but don't worry, we'll find out soon enough!!
why the hell are they dropping symbian, especially now that it's getting real good with symbian 3.....???
I think this is totally horrible and irresponsible. Bada and android are good but dropping and stopping help for their manufactured phones suddenly is too irresponsible. At least they should do it a bit slower. It shows Sammy would do anything if they change their plan with no respect to their customers.
android, bada and windows sever are enough platforms to worry about. Symbian is troublesome, not user friendly and its coding is difficult and not adaptable to the type of phones both samsung and sony erricson are making these days. It seems logical to ditch the OS and focus on making the others berrer.
OR They may becomes BADA-fanatic!! after they ditch other oses who knows x( DAMN U SAMSUNG if you don't support me an old user then no more support 4 u.
