Someone actually had a chance to play with it and it was really annoying and just not natural. I think it's good they scrapped it. It could be decent for gaming sure but they can't sell it as a general use control system. We shall see what they do. It's not like i'm waiting. I have my phones and when I feel like something catches my attention enough to buy a new one, I will. It doesn't have to be an MS phone.
It's a perfect example for that why all cloud / server based apps are crap.
Those apps are the bests that offer their full functionality offline and do not require internet connection to work or to check license (and that's why cracked apps are better).
AnonD-130610, 13 Aug 2016If it is for remove the support of Android KitKat i guess that is a perfect stupidity. Because... moreAs someone who actually uses one as a daily driver, I would like to point-out you get official Cyanogenmod builds for that device (CM12.1 / Lollipop). I must say, in my experience, this works even better than the stock ROM.
Unfortunately, despite sharing most of the internal with Nexus 4 and the Nexus having the latest CM13, our phone appears to be stuck beyond that (in official builds). All unofficial builds I have tried of CM13 always turn-out having some weird wake issue, where you press the power button but nothing happen for quite a while. You've been warned.
AnonD-130610, 13 Aug 2016If it is for remove the support of Android KitKat i guess that is a perfect stupidity. Because... moreMin requirement is Android 4.0.3. Kitkat is 4.4 and is supported. The removal of support is for 4.0.2 and older. I hardly see any 4.0 android devices nowadays. Most of them managed too et to jellybean at the least.

I'm using Linux but I'm not a gamer and I've heard it many times, a lot of people would switch (or to MacOS) if their favorite games were available (there are thousands on Steam but not the big titles). Yet, there's a billion of games for iOS and Android already, but let's say that if Microsoft could make the phones play Xbox games, and continue playing while plugged into a TV or external monitor (the way WM sort of has real Windows when plugged), it would be something. But it would need more investments and they're already treating their phones division as an unwanted child. Competition is always good, and choice, but it's like Microsoft are just giving up. There was a video with a prototype with an innovative touch display and sensors (Nokia McLaren, there's a few YouTube videos about it) but they canceled it. And there haven't been any rumors of high-end Microsoft phones lately.

Some nifty case that can turn into a gamepad. Gaming is huge and it's huge enough to get people to move over to windows mobile. Think about how many people stay in windows on their Desktop just for gaming.

A bunch of people trusted them and bought Lumia phones only to be told they are starting from scratch with WP8 and that nothing will be compatible, upgraded or supported. And now most of WP8 phones won't get WM even though they promised. Yes, they'd need something truly spectacular, but I don't think it will happen.

But MS is willing to deal with that because I'm sure they want to get rid of the Windows 8 store and all the servers they have to maintain for windows 8 stuff. And they lose a lot of customers but they still have hope for rebuilding from scratch. Keep in mind that the market share they are after is the larger share of people who never had windows mobile or even tried it. Granted it will be super tough if nearly impossible unless they do something spectacular with their new devices.

Those people (I know two who got burned) are probably looking at Android and iOS now.

You can make any Android phones last as long as a iphone if flash roms
Plus new roms work better on old devices
Than new iOS on old devices
Your not giving up any performance on a rom

They are too cheap to buy newer phones, too cheap to buy apps or make purchases. Consider that Android dominates the market but the most app/game revenue comes from IOS. Why? Because IOS users are not cheap, they pay big money for their phones and invest more in the ecosystem.
