Check again. Once you are in a page the software buttons disappear.
So it's 1 click to see "Options".
2 click the "Options"
3 Click on the "Go to".
4 click on the "New web page".
Opera browser: You get a "Connection needed" pop-up as you must be sure you want to connect:) (again Symbian genius at work) .
No pinch zoom , no Flash.
I do not care about iPhone. I did not bought one because I WANT Flash on my mobile.
SPB Shell: IS $29.95. Why should I buy an UI improvement app on a "top notch" phone which costs over $500?

because symbian is different. Duh.....
'why, you do not see the homescreen?'
this information shows up before the homescreen becomes visible
On any symbian smartphone since 2003, i can run up to 3 different applications each with its own unique access point, proxy and port. Thats 3 packet data connections simultaneously. At the same time, i can run a fourth application connected viz wifi.
When an app attempts to connect to the internet on symbian, it notifies you. This might not make sense in a platform where only one packet data connection can be run at once but where you have the privilege of running multiple, it becomes essential. On s^1 and ^3 can disable this notification for all symbian apps. Then, the device just picks the default connection option.
What annoys me really about you is your irrational premises. None of your micro points make or break a smartphone. Webbrowser, maybe but that there is a better one out there in the app store for free. Makes it so not a big deal. You may say its not inbuilt but thats no rational argument.
By definition, the n8 IS ultimate smartphone. Why? Symbian. The only os with true multi tasking!
If you consider the iphone a smartphone, you might feel otherwise.
Smartphones are meant to bridge the gap between mobiles and computers. Whats smart about a phone if it can't perform the basic idea in computing? Parallel running user application. A phone isn't called smart by the size of its screen or the attractiveness of its ui. Those aren't what define a smartphone.

...and why it is that info message necessary, and others like that, for TWO "meager" SECONDS? Do you know what it means? And BTW do you really need to know that your screen unlock code was correct, that you want to connect to the internet, and so on? Oh, and you get a lot of pleasure when you have to click four times to get to the keyboard to type a new url address in the browser?

E.g. my N86 doesn't show that notification when my SIM is inside, but when I put my father's SIM, the notification is shown everytime I call someone. And anyways, it's only shown while calling, for some meager 2 seconds. What's the big fuss? What you're doing is not nitpicking, it's pointless criticism.
nokia finally give phone os update to versus google android
So if my Nokia phone is based on symbian 1 S60 version 9.4, I can also update to those function which Nokia early planned symbian 4?

Anyway, nobody will ever solve the "Active Diverts" mystery on the Nokia phones:).
[deleted post]" Up to the late 2006, the best of nokia was synonymous to the best in the world. And its still so in the non touch segment."
Times change pal. Now we are close to 2011. N8 would have been good for 2006, not now. If you like your "Active Diverts" kind of pop-ups, going through FOUR steps to type a new url address in the browser, you do not want a qwerty keyboard in portrait mode, you do not want more than 3 homescreens, and have A LOT of patience to load big web pages (not very well either), be my guest. But please do not come with the BS that N8 is close to the best smartphones on the market today. It's just pathetic.

Good thing the Broadcomm GPU can then.
"4 Years after iPhone, and Nokia releases the N8. Still no kinetic scrolling, no rubber banding"
Err... it actually has both. And by 'rubber banding' do you mean the rubber band you have to put around an iPhone 4 to actually make a call? :)
The SGS is a horrible piece of plastic that looks nasty, cheap and ugly. No-one in their right mind would every consider buying one.
See? I can do silly opinions too. Admittedly in better English but there you go...
@To the guy who posted the long rant about the N97 etc
You completely missed the point of the article, didn't you?

So what if Nokia has 38% of the MOBILE PHONE market (not the smartphone market)? NOKIA 1100 is the most sold phone in the world. This just means there are more poor people than rich people. So poor people buy Nokia, rich people buy iOS and Android. Nokia tried to make a high level phone with N8. So it's similar with a limousine made by Tata or Geely. Looks good on outside, but inside is junk.
[deleted post]Lol, the galaxy s browser is a crashster. A pal of mine has one. It lags on engadget and crashes when you open multiple tabs. Well, his runs a cooked rom but still. .
[deleted post]Nokia has 38 percent of the total smartphone market. The 30 percent quoted here includes feature phones. 38 percent for nokia alone should mean symbian still runs on over 43% of all smartphones.
S^1 has multitouch. Talkless what used to be s^3 which the n8 runs.
