Buying such device for that money is just ldiotic, especially taking in to the account that spec.
Phone is phone, no matter what it have inside its still good for typical daily media/social work, but here we have VR device that really need some power to provide good experience, especially considering that most of VR media and games that will arrive next year, will have some punch on performance. Even google daydream show that to keep good experience, compatible devices will need some raw power to keep up with that.
And here we have, last year spec, that even if still is really good, after end of 2017 will be just "good". And you realize that you spend almost 500$ on device that dont give you full experience.

Not to mention that even if some good vr product will show up, still mobile VR is in really early stage, and 90% of current apps and games that are on market... are bad made, ugly, laggy, cr#p that is not usable at all. So taking this in to the account is WAY BETTER to buy good quality VR handset and put your phone there when needed, instead of buying that.

Its way better for your wallet, and for better experience to buy, eg. homido, Baofeng Mojing(2 or3), Ling VR 1S, Snail VR, Vrizzmo, Huawei VR or Zeiss VR One, all of them have good lenses, are comfortable... and are compatible with every devices(as far as it fits). And you will spend only 80-120$ and when you get new phone... its still be working.

And if someone say that those device have better screen? nope. not only 120-degree field of view is not that good(best for most of people is actually 85-100, especially for movies), but even resolution compared to some phones is not that amazing.
