So why everyone with laptops use external mouse instead of touch pad? Because mouse is fast and easy compared to touch pad. Same apply to surface. Keyboard is faster than touch screen. Many people with iPads and Android tablets use Bluetooth keyboards. Cuz it's easier to type with keyboard.
Surface keyboard is also a protection for screen. There are so many reasons to keep the keyboard.

In reality, most of people with the Surface Pro around me always have the keyboard attached to it, and use it as a laptop. My claim is that the Surface Pro 4 is a laptop, thus the keyboard is essential to it. Microsoft is double dipping by selling the keyboard separately.

Attach the keyboard, extend the kickstand and move the keyboard back (under the kickstand). That make surface very stable and you can put it on you chest and your hands can be behind your head.
Hope it helps :D. I agree with battery being much lower than ipads. But that is only thing I would like improved in surface (and maybe better device at release and not 2 months later with firmware updates).
AnonD-428442, 17 Sep 2016If it was, then sell your keyboard. You don't need it then right? That is stupid. If he sell his keyboard than he will just have a tablet. Not tablet that can replace laptop. I read your other comments too, yes I have this device and I used it without keyboard for 3 months. I was using it to replace notebooks and tablet. But getting a keyboard, I can do even more with it.

The Surface Pro is a great little machine. (I have one, since it seems to be important in the comments) however, as a tablet it's frankly so-so. It's awesome that you can run legacy Windows software, and that's number one thing for any Windows device. Unfortunately, the battery life is not only not up to par with other tablets like the iPads (which I also have - the Air) which seriously limits my use of the Surface as the tablet, but even Macs have superior battery lives.
Additionally, the Surface is on the heavy side, so the iPad is still my "bed and throne" reading machine that I though the Surface could replace.
However, the Surface is awesome as being a super portable laptop with all the power you'd expect from a laptop, with tablet features, which is awesome in its own right.
I wish the continued updates to Windows focus on minimization and battery efficiency, cutting processes running in the background etc, so the Surface could one day get its long battery life while also becoming lighter. Because using a almost 1kg device for reading in bed and having to charge it for 2 hours after 4 hours of light use is not there yet for pure tablet replacement.
AnonD-428442, 16 Sep 2016Like I said, go ahead, use one. Do you have one? I do.I have one. And as He said, is productive as any other tablet. Even better. You have pen with it. It depends by user preference. If you cant be productive on it, than you dont need a tablet. Yes, it running Windows. Windows 10 to be precise. Switch it to tablet mode...

I don't know of any IOS or Android tablet that is more productive than a surface, even without the keyboard.
Whoever wrote this article seems mad lol.
Surface > MacBook. It is no secret. Keep on singing it Microsoft.
I definitely like my MacBook and Surface though. If I should give up one it might be the MacBook.

Do you even have one? I have the Surface Pro 4, and while I waited for the keyboard to arrive, I tried using it as is. It's Windows, it's not as productive as a tablet only machine. It is a laptop.

But somehow I'm reminded of those "I'm a Mac" and "I'm a PC" ads that Apple used to run. By your logic, perhaps you think that was Steve Jobs desperate to work with Microsoft.

Leo, 16 Sep 2016Apple shows off the keyboard for their iPad Pro but yet you have to buy that separately too. The iPad is a tablet first and foremost. The keyboard is optional.
The Surface Pro 4 is a laptop. The keyboard is compulsory. Try using the SP4 without the keyboard and see how far you can be productive. It's running wWindows afterall.
Blame McCann Erickson, I luv Microsoft but these ads are awful. McCann Erickson is only good at advertising food and rectal medicine...
Apple have strong presence in my country and you can find macs and ipads more than other devices. Still ipad pro is no where and surface pro are every where. Since release of ipad pro I have seen only 2 and surface pro are lot more common. This is from my uni. Outside of uni, everyone have his face jammed in the smartphone and most of them are iphones.
Reason why surface pro are more than ipad pro is because surface replaces mac and ipad (pro or not). And Ipad pro is a mobile computer. It is like having android OS install on your workstation/gaming desktop. And there is no mouse with it. What is the point of keyboard if we still have to use touchscreen. May as well use the touch keyboard.
On these ads, I think they are cheap and MS should not splash dirt on competition. But that is what I think. Remember MAC vs PC ads by apple? They were exactly like these but without music. But they worked pretty well for apple. So this might work for MS too.
Reviewer sounds like having touch screen with a detachable keyboard with a pen is nothing. The point there is you don't have to buy those separately and spend a fortune for those its comes as a package.... And its a great product too. They don't have to compare with iPad pro though its cheap....
