[deleted post]Actually Apple's newton was a failed product because it tried to copy several touch pads that came way ahead of it and failed miserably:
1989: GRiD Systems' GRiDPad
1991: Momenta Pentop with Penpoint OS + handwritten gestures
1991: NCR released model 3125 pen computer
1992: Windows for pen
1993: Fijutsu's Poqet PC (with integrated wireless LAN)
1993: IBM's ThinkPad
1993: AT&T's EO Personal Communicator
Late 1993 came the Newton that was running no OS, had no wireless lan and no gesture navigation. It failed miserably. The ThinkPad brand still exists today.
im using iphone for 2 month and its nothing wrong with the phone in Malaysia..

Does anyone know whether its better to jailbreak the iphone 4 with firmware 4.1? Or to upgrade to 4.2? At the moment I am on 4.1 firmware.
Anonymous, 22 Nov 2010Dude, that's only in your little world. Lots of people where using tablets long before iPad. I... moreApple made the touchscreen based Newton before 1992, people who worked on the newton later went and started a company called Palm.
Nokia was still making gum boots.
The Prada was a piece of crap nothing like an iPhone which was already in development and shown a few weeks later.

X6, 23 Nov 2010people complain about OS performance, game performance, camera performance, sound performance ... moreAs I said before, it's a matter of horses for courses and what you want to get out of your devices - which is why there is still a market for each separate device as well as all-in-one smartphones.
I for one have relied totally on my phones having a contact manager, calendar and alarm function for many years. These are nowadays standard fare for even the cheapest phones, but to take your view to its logical conclusion are superfluous to the "purpose" of a mobile phone: to make calls.
Sure, my contact manager makes calling someone easier by remembering their number for me; my calendar makes knowing when to call and what about easier; and my alarm gets me up for work. Why should I have a Filofax (which I tried, by the way), a cardfile and a bedside alarm clock (actually, I do have one of these in addition to my phone) when all three of these extra functions are served quite adequately by my mobile phone?
I was once against the idea of convergence devices as well, and it's true that the jack of all trades is master of none. However I don't need SLR-quality pictures; Opera House-quality acoustics; cinema-quality visuals or PalmPilot-quality PDA functions. I need something that's always there with me, which ideally covers as many bases as possible to an adequate level. Phones can do that these days - though to be fair I still take my digicam around with me.
In reply to the repl, 23 Nov 2010Why buy all those individual devices when you can have them all in one?people complain about OS performance, game performance, camera performance, sound performance or processing speed or whatever thing that can be complained on a phone. mobile phones are invented for the main purpose of making a call, those other functions are just little extras to it. Its not meant to replace your Desktop computer or gaming console!
It will be great to have iOS 4 features into iPad. I really appreciate it. I hope Dev-Team release a jailbreak for new OS as soon so possible.
dear me, the new SMS alerts are a joke!!! Fanfares!!! Waaaaay to loooong Apple!
sadly i cant get the update coz i dont have credit card..and theres no games apps yet on my ipod. anyways i bought it last week
im sure 4.2 update is awesome!
4.2 is crap the next update will be crap, even 5.0 will probably be crap because Apple refuse give what the jailbreak offers (Tweaks etc.). They could do it... but they wont because Steve Jobs is as stubbourn as a mule and will never do the mature thing and do whats in the best interests of the company and the customers. His ego is so inflated it has risen too high and has left planet earth.
iphone is for people who dont mind paying more n more cos its all about the internet
mohd, 23 Nov 2010my exp seller phone i think iphone 4 is good for gaming user and apps user, medium for internet... moreIf you want to play games, get a Game console/PC
If you want to surf the web, get a PC
If you want to take photos, get a dedicated digicam
If you want to record videos, get a camcorder
If you want to listen to music, get a music player
If you want to make calls, GET A MOBILE PHONE!
For those of us out there who dosen't expect too much out a phone, any phone will do. Theres no such thing as a perfect phone/OS..yet...Nokia's not perfect, iPhones are not perfect, Samsung's and HTC's are not perfect, heck...and everybody's saying: "oh oh! iPhone is the best phone out there!", "Android is the best!"...etc...u knw the phrases..
Just updated to 4.2.1..disappointed-nothing new. The capacitive touchscreen seems to be the only innovation on iphone. Will switch to Android in Q1/2011 it seems.
I love Applefans :D
