Imagine if Apple just paid a load of people to compromise their Note 7s so they'd catch fire... It'd explain why the Samsung engineers are unable to replicate the fires or explosions and it would push people towards another phablet being released around the same time as well as hit Samsung for a few billion...
Samsung is pushing the Li-ion battery energy density envelope. This time they may have pushed it too far.
Watch iFixit teardown videos for Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung Note7. Compare batteries. Apple's battery looks physically bigger, the battery compartment in the phone is bigger than the battery, plenty of gap around battery. Samsung's battery looks physically smaller than Apple's battery, and it looks quite tight in the Note7's battery compartment.
Problem? Capacity. Apple's battery is 2900mAh, Samsung's 3500mAh. How is it possible to get a greater capacity in a smaller battery? By removing extra layers of physical protection outside and inside of the battery. Higher energy density batteries are less stable, there is less surface area for heat dissipation. Expose them to rapid and wireless charging and they will tend to overheat. When they overheat they expand. If they are already in a tight battery compartment , their internal pressure increases causing internal damage.
Apple may be greedy, but they are not stupid. That's why they are not winning any contest in the speed of battery charging, or battery capacity. They play it safe as they know their brand name is their greatest asset. Maybe Samsung could have fixed Note7 problem with a battery of a smaller capacity, but were afraid of users not accepting the solution.
Vhh, 12 Oct 2016I returned my n7 now can't find any phone to replace n7 .... n7 is best phone ... Did research before hand..can't find fon to replace N7. .so I keep mine..qualcom, from HongKong, no issue at all..
Anonymous, 12 Oct 2016Battery issues are not rare to any phone or mass produced consumer goodfrom all major brands I've used.. only samsung got battery issues so far.. 4 of 5 my samsung devices (phones and tablets) were sent off to samsung service center for battery issues, more than once each device in less than 9months.. now, did you get the message? other brands, like sony, lg, even lenovo devices I used here none of them ever had this battery-related issues
Anonymous, 13 Oct 2016If you can't even differentiate your own model of the phone, let alone the flight attendant.Point here was the flight attendant could not tell... So he told a random Samsung phone user power down. Think, if you can, how done this brand is...
mynameisHal, 13 Oct 2016I was recently asked in-flight to power off my S7 Edge, since it looks like the S7 NOTE. If you can't even differentiate your own model of the phone, let alone the flight attendant.

Anonymous, 12 Oct 2016can I have one of the defective notes? You need to buy it.
Well...at least Qualcomm is off the hook on this one. Still won't matter after 810 and 820 problems their reputation has been tarnished. Bad PR for Samsung though. Hopefully lesson learned.
battery issues are not rare for samsung, when I bring my Samsung tablet to samsung service center, before giving any description or symptoms to their technician, they can describe all my problems/symptoms of my device before checking it.. it seems they are used to
Anonymous, 12 Oct 2016can I have one of the defective notes? I think Samsung reuse the note 7 conponents to release a new phone, maybe advance mid-range note, this is possible due they won't waste the recalled gadgets.
