I think its a useful gimmick. I also like the idea that shortcuts and other tabs/buttons can be added to the bar to make working easier, more seamless
1, While using the bar, the user will definitely has to look away/down from the display to find those non-tactile touch bar functions.
2, It will not suit everyone, and paying that much for something....i honestly just can't recommend it unless you really have a lot to spend
3, I like the concept, in fact, i love it. But it would've been great if they could've probably implement that 3d touch feature into it. More functions could've been added, and the users would've got a feedback at least. (This is probs coming in the next 2 years as i'm sure Apple will not implement a touch-screen for the Mac lineup anytime soon)
I don't know if people understand the definition of stupid anymore. Apple buyers are like those native Americans that were giving gold away in exchange of any worthless shiny trinkets the sailors could find on the ship.
An app optimized for the touch bar would be more difficult to operate from an external keyboard. Why is it better to be forced to always use the builtin keyboard - instead of an external one - of a supposedly pro laptop that will stay on a desktop most of the time? Even if you use just the builtin keyboard, why would it be better to have apps that force you to look at the touch bar, which can change depending on the screen you are in? Why would it be better to have to interact with a non-tactile touch bar instead of tactile keys? Why would it be better to not have a physical ESC key? What happens to an OLED screen that displays the same static images for hours at a time, after a few years of doing so? What is the resale value of an expensive laptop that has smudges from OLED burnin on the touch bar?
The level of stupidity that Apple relies on is just mind numbing.
The OLED touch bar is definetly something cool to have. Whoever can afford one of these will certainly have a different experience ^^.

"However, it seems Cupertino can't decide exactly how it envisions the usefulness and implementation of the Touch Bar"
So, the Magical Touch Bar is just a gimmick? Not quite often I hear that from Apple.
"Apple really wants developers to take the Touch Bar seriously"
How about when Apple take developers and pro seriously?
*no SD card slot
