Excellent idea. I think next they should finally implement that kill switch and remotely kill all the phones that are older than two years or that have outdated os.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2016All Note 7 users should change their IMEI.If I was luckily enough to get a note 7 I would change the imei
This is a very good idea, after all the Note 7 could explode and infect all the other phones in that particular network and they would explode too.
This is a nice thing from the carriers to prevent this from happening,
AnonD-296725, 05 Nov 2016that's f'ked up, ppl who paid for their devices should have right to keep or notOk, think of it like this. You have the Note 7 for 6 months as an upgrade, after all the recalls & carrier messages to send it back you are eventually cut off. You do not have a second phone as you did not swap it like Samsung suggested so you have to purchase another one as the swap program has ended. That sucks.
Or the other scenario, you haven't change your Note 7 but you have a second phone that you are using, all good. Even when off the Note 7 starts smoking & it burns a table, bed or whatever, something valuable. Insurance is not going to cover you as you had the chance to exchange the phone & you have kept it knowing it had the fault. That sucks.

this phone will become a rare item. keep it for 5 years, and sell it to the collector. you'll earn a lot.
the next release will brick the phone completely, with nothing but a message on screen telling the user to return it.
Herodroid, 05 Nov 2016Lol are you simple-minded? Dont you know why people are not returning their phone? Lol this is... moreFirst of all, there was no word to say that the upgrade program was going to happen in New Zealand & I am pretty sure it wasn't including the Note 7, it was the S7 & S7e if you changed from the Note 7. Second, the Note 7 as it is will not be worth as much as it is now next year, if anything, a few that are in the wild may become collectors items so it could be worth more, on the other hand it may be worth next to nothing, no ones knows. & third, there is nothing to say that your little 'trick' will work & personally, I do not see it working when the rules state that the Note 8 or S8 or whatever flagship Samsung release next year will be exchanged for a Note 7.
How could Samsung interfere with the life cycle of a sold mobile with out consent from its owner.
Samsung offers S7 Edge for Note 7 owners. But there is a key difference between these two devices: S7 Egde does not have S Pen. This is the main reason why some Note 7 owners don't want to return their Note 7. There is no substitute for Note 7 on the market. If Note 7 owners wanted just a big phone with good specs they didn't even need to look for Samsung device only as there is plenty of options on the market as many other manufacturers have a flagship device with 5.5-5.7 inch screen. So problem is just in the fact that S7 Edge is not a fair substitute.
chris, 05 Nov 2016this is not right at all!!What is not right? I'm surprised it has took this long. If any more of these phones combust it will just be another hit to Samsung's reputation.
Herodroid, 05 Nov 2016Lol are you simple-minded? Dont you know why people are not returning their phone? Lol this is... moreHanging on to it is not getting any rebate deals. Anyone who bought the Note 7 will get the S8 at half price regardless of holding on to a Note 7, which is being bricked on all networks.
The whole world should do this or better still, samsung should issue a forced update that makes the phone inoperable. Those foolish enough to keep their phone will be left with a dead brick and it serves them right. Idiots who endanger themselves and others should not be given a choice and should have it taken away by force if need be.
AnonD-597058, 05 Nov 2016Good luck to Samsung on shipping all their units via road as they not allowed to be shipped by air.I read they have explosion-proof boxes to ship the faulty devices. Thanks for the luck! Lol!
