Since Google wants to silently kill Nexus line Nexus 6P will be the last phone I own from Google. Such threatening is untolerable.

Year 2016 and most popular mobile system doesnt have such simple function... or even function to choose between dark/light theme... or even resolution/DPI change that just recently came to some android devices, and is seriously easy to implement and have loooots of good characteristics, like: reducing battery usage when you dont need crisp HD screen, better performance on games(even 2x better! without loosing any quality eg from 2k to fHD no visible difference)
So, as always google instead of making Android better and evolve it to replacement for more advanced devices(PC) they still add useless/not working stuff and bugs on every version that need to be fix in the next release, and its going like that for past few years... Android is old guy that just put fancy clothes and took viaqra.
CF.lumen in the Play Store. Problem solved.
Chainfire created the O.G. display temp changing app YEARS before Android & iOS had 'Night mode' and 'Nightshift'. How these work is they reduce the blue light output. Blue light tells your brain that it needs to stay as conscious and active as possible due to its presence in sunlight, so by changing the temperature of the display (not the 'shade/hue/etc.'), your brain won't register the blue light and it will be easier to fall asleep if you use your mobile device right up until you get in bed.
Btw, since the app has to alter the display driver's properties, and therefore hardware layer settings, it is a ROOT ONLY app. So if you're rooted, go for it. Also, since it's Chainfire's app, it's written for maximum compatibility with SuperSU (another one of Chainfire's gems), so SuperSU is the preferred root access manager of choice for using CF.lumem. I think it'll work with CM's root manager as well.
Looks like they wanted to silently cripple the nexus devices bit by bit to entice some more people to go for their pixel phones. But they won't fool those tech enthusiasts who usually buy a nexus phone!
What a night mode should do: change the theme / skin colors from light to dark colors at night, and from dark to light colors at day, like the GPS navigation programs do it.
