Yes, it was on the back of the 6P. I agree with most of what you said. Maybe Huawei are completely focused on their own brand for now, that's why they turned this down. To be honest I'm glad they did because Huawei phones, while probably the best in Chinese class, aren't as durable as other manufacturers. The Nexus 6P had questionable durability (see JerryRigEverything's durability test). HTC on the other hand always have impeccable build and durability.
Maybe their true reason is that they knew Pixel (with it's expensive pricetag) won't be sold in volumes unlike their own Mate9, P9 and others so why wasting their resources and effort for it? And their experience with Nexus 6P has something to do about it.
Pixel is not even available anywhere outside the specific markets they are sold in and they barely account for what the nexus did
So now google will not be competitive
where i live it's such a disgrace to own a huawei, still sound too Chinese
it is because huawei is such an no innovative corporation that not mentioning its brand would look like they are slaves of google. really ... take huawei's brand of their phones and you can't say what the h.. it is. so they did the right thing. on the other hand(i am not saying pixels are good or bad) pixels have htc written all over their design and that's what it's like to be an iconic brand. HTC is an icon, it simply does not need its name be written under it. So they did the right thing too.
Huawei would have Done a much better job in design compared to HTC :(
Proud of you Huawei. I think now Google will have a second thought of bringing the Nexus brand back.
Google destroys brands.
Who would buy android phones without sd slots no removable battery and crappy internal storage?
Not to be negative but I am glad Huawei didn't brand it. Its not an easy name either.
They should have appreciated the business given that Google is about quality. HTC is a good match for Google in that respect. it has history, overall excellent quality, simple, clean and the G looks just fine.

"Giles says Huawei doesn't see Google as a direct competitor," can't tell if this is a humblebrag or a low-blow at Google.
Of course huawei did that..but they need to redesign their logo..
