Cool news. If you're a fan of the N900 hardware, it won't be long before you can use it however you want to use it. And IMHO that's the real power of a proper smartphone/convergence device.
I find it funny how all the Nokia Fans are now praising this as such a big achievement when before the lot of you were like "Nokia doesn't need heavy consuming android blah blah blah android sucks". If the tables were turned and a developer installed Symbian 1 or Symbian ^3 you fanboys would be like "HAHAHAH android wants to be like Nokia". However I will not take away from the story, good job on hacker for doing something that he enjoys.
deep space bar, 26 Dec 2010well if you've noticed it's not an ancient pc.it's a micro computer
tablet/computer/phone in ... moreI would like to see where you get your info from? From what I can tell the N900 only runs windows 3.11 which isn't even a big achievement at all. I've gotten my GPS unit to run windows 3.11. Windows XP isn't actually installed or ran on the N900, you connect to it via rDesktop which is just controlling a pc as a client(again not a big deal). You do know that the N900 is basically the same as the iphone 3GS correct? They're both using the same SoC and clocked at the same speed none the less.
Also to those who said resistive touch is better than capacitive touch just because of one mobile painting video obviously doesn't know how to do a search on youtube, i'll be a nice guy and provide some links.
done on the lower resolution screen of iphone 3GS no less,
Anonymous, 26 Dec 2010How about porting Gingerbread to Apple iPad. That'll be cool. it would make the ipad more useful i would agree on that since meego is not done yet lol

tablet/computer/phone in one
and running a full OS so if you want something like that get since you don't need to use linux(maemo5) if you don't want too but it's the best at browsing and multitasking

U said : N8 has the best Camera on the market till now
i really dont agree . N... moreDistributer ,,, why do you insist on 2 cell phones that is not really released ?
it's the best on the market not ( in development ) the two cell phones are in development and in production. not yet available for us to buy.
I'm sure you are right on one thing , If I have waited I would have had something better. everyday technology rolls faster and gives us better options :)
I'll consider a better one when it's available :)
and no doubt the higher CPU, Ram and Rom in the other cell phones is very good thing by far better less laggin' etc
thank you for your last response it looks a lot fair and balanced ,, your other replies was like "I'm against Nokia" ... but your last reply seems balanced not with and not against ... sorry for my English too if I make any mistakes it's not my first language any way
any way , I'm honored to argue with you lol ... it's nice to discuss things it will make things more clear for others I think ...
peace be upon you

again you are talking nonsense I told you that it is the best on the market and... morehi dude
U said : N8 has the best Camera on the market till now
i really dont agree . N8 with 12 MP can make good photos , cause 1MP from 12MP is only SIZE difference nothing else . so bigger photo better quality . as u told me u know about SE phone 16MP , so N8 camera is not best . + N8 can make video on 720p while LG 2x 1080p , and dont forget XENON flash is only for photos N8 dont have flash for videos which means u cat make videos with N8 when is dark .
im not here to force u to hate Symbian or Nokia . im here to say what i know . u also know that Symbian support only low screen resolution so dont make me to say this again . + CPU and RAM are small on N8 .
in the end N8 is amazing with aluminium body .and bluetooth 3.0 like SGS . N8 is not for me , i dont like phones with small screen and big body like N8 .
im happy if u enjoy ur N8 . sorry for my bad eglish .
again you are talking nonsense I told you that it is the best on the market and you are talking about "16 Megapixel Sony Ericsson Camera Phone Outed. May Be For Japan’s Eyes Only."
which was published only 3 days ago.
you are really genius, I bought my cell phone more than a month ago. and this one is not even available
add to that it's not always about the Mega pixels . it's about the sensor size and the quality you get from it. so you are the one who should educate yourself about technology.
the Mega pixels is only for the resolution ... if it wasn't like this so all Cameras with 5 MP are the same , All the Cameras with 8 MP are the same , or the Idou ( Statio ) and Pixon 12 is the same as N8 which is wrong....
I was completely right when I bought my cell phone it gave me the best camera phone in the market when I bought it and till now it is still the best camera phone on the market ( released for the public )
so go enjoy your Samsung, HTC , iPhone , and their minor cameras
about the resolution issue , if you have talked about watching videos on the N8 against the other cell phones with higher resolution I'd have considered your opinion.
but watching pictures specially high quality ones , on small screen 3.5 or even 4.5 with any resolution is a waste of time ... you won't be able to enjoy the true quality on silly small screen.
one more time I tell you, when the market offer me something better I will buy it. I'm not paid by nokia to share ,nor any company
I'm just offended by such trolls here who talk about what they didn't try by themselves.
so I'm saying the truth and I'm not trying to cover things like some people or sweeten things , or make up things etc
final words ... N8 has the best Camera on the market till now ... go hit the wall with your head if you don't believe it lol ,,, GSM Arena agrees with me on that ... so who do you think yourself are ? GSM Arena said it's the best. so your words are bull$**T
[deleted post]stop trying to be me too many people know me on this website nice try
Alui, 25 Dec 2010Nokia fanboys just get it thru your thick heads: The fact that N900 can run Gingerbread does ... moredumbo it's not a smartphone it's a computer with can can run desktop and mobile OS and full ones not netbook versions
i owned one that's how i know and it's still the most versitial device to date
full bootable OSs,easy overclocking and it can be but to multiple uses and still has one of the best looking OSs
banda babu, 25 Dec 2010NOKIA KO NO KIA.there is no monopoly of nokia market now. there r so many fones with affordabl... moreall my nokia devices have been reliable as hell why do you think i've always got a nokia and not anything....cause they are reliable and affordable...most of the manufactures have massive problems and they correct them but not as fast i've notice atleast nokia lets people know there is a problem and does a massive recall so they can fix it asap
that's what i've noticed from nokia
Nokia fanboys just get it thru your thick heads: The fact that N900 can run Gingerbread does not mean it will do it as well as the main Android dedicated phones (with much better processors and GPU's). It will just ruin the Gingerbread experience. N900 is a brick and I would be really ashamed to be seen with such a "smartphone".
NOKIA KO NO KIA.there is no monopoly of nokia market now. there r so many fones with affordable price, best features, durability and they r also reliable.
i must say samsung, htc are the ones one must choose ,buy and rely.
believe me nokia fones are now pricey, less features, lots of troubles, less reliable service and the list just goes on........
this phone is the best for sure. you can do whatever you want with it. the only thing that can't do is milkshake!
You do realise that the N900 never ran and Symbian variant. The default OS is Maemo5 Fremantle.
