KMB877, 17 Dec 2016I'm totally puzzled.
About a year ago, BB announced their deal with TLC to build cellphones ... moreIndonesian government requires all phone manufacturers to build the phones locally or at least set up a research centre. Otherwise they are not allowed to sell their phone legally within the country. (black market stocks are still rampant though. All apple products are black market here).
So TCL made BB would never be allowed to be imported and sold here.
I hope they would release an updated version of BB Classic. Using android is okay since BB OS is not really supported by the local telcos anyway.
But what I'm very concerned about this locally produced phone are the quality and the warranty. Since they don't care about them.
If it's a touch-only device based on BB10 os WITHOUT any kind of physical keyboard and WITH a 5.5 inch display or bigger, then party is on.
Anything else, then BlackBerry is just continuing going in circles trying to bite its tail.
I'm totally puzzled.
About a year ago, BB announced their deal with TLC to build cellphones branded BB. The result was shown already: DTEK50 and DTEK60. Great, days ago, they announced the "long therm deal with TLC". However, TLC it's part of Foxconn, the Chinese cellphone maker. Usual they are making cells under Alcatel brand (acquired from Lucent).
Ok, so what's the deal whit Indonesia and this new joint-venture BB Red and White? Looks like they shall build cellphones for BB... but what about the deal with TCL!?
Anonymous, 17 Dec 2016Bye bye Blackberry. :DWell, a lot of people would love to get a cellphone with a physical keyboard. However, having the keyboard on the bottom, does not make a lot of sense, this is like shifting down the virtual one. It would make more sense to have a side keyboard, more like Nokia E7.
Combine this with a good quality build materials (no cheap plastics), reasonable battery and relative decent price (not like Priv or DTEK). Else, I have to agree: bye-bye BB!
HackSonX, 17 Dec 2016If they price this like the Priv or the DTEK then their company will definitely be doomed.Totally agree with you. Not acceptable to pump up $150 only for... "software".
AnonD-135230, 17 Dec 2016Have you used the DTEK60? It's a pretty good phone. Sold my S7 edge to use the DTEK60.Of course it is a pretty good phone, but overpriced. But why should I pay $150 more (in average) than Axon 7, OnePlus 3, ASUS ZenFone3, Alcatel Idol 4 (all using SD820, 4GB, etc)?
Maybe this device will not available outside of Indonesia...
Coz, BlackBerry was choose local company to produce it, and they make a new company called BB MERAH PUTIH
