Very surprising that Apple is in a collaboration. Normally it's like Samsung, Google and other android phone manufacturers doing something to copy one thing of the newest iPhone.
Someone Else, 17 Dec 2016A 5" phone that can be folded up to a 10" tablet is not a gimmick to meYou must not understand the English word 'fold'. Apart from prevention of cracks I don't see the point of foldable or flexible displays.

In fact every manufacturers are dependent on one 3rd party manufacturers for supplying components. For example, Samsung's amoled were supplied by Universal Display Inc.
Looks great they work together, but I hope they can make the battery safety first and don't explode when the screen flexing.
Good to hear. LG is good at many things; batteries, displays, and they could definitely benefit those manufacturers with their displays, however, what I don't understand is - how in the world can Apple, Google and Microsoft partner with LG to develop fold able display panels if they don't even do that kind of stuff?
It seems MS is still in mobile hardware business after all. A Surface phone with foldable screen perhaps.
People slam companies for not being innovative & LG comes along with something innovative, something that could benefit us for years to come & pave the way for more & innovative tech & it gets slammed!
As for the comment that stated that we should have proper smartphones that function properly let me guess you want a smartphone with an IR blaster, SD card slot, removable battery & a jack, am I right?
Someone Else, 17 Dec 2016Please enlighten me what to be considered as a "proper smatphone"proper smatphone = well functional as it should & guess what? there's none

Lg has shown prototypes for ePaper foldable displays.

Agreed that the AMOLED displays on Samsung phones are superb, but bare in mind the colours are not as accurate as LCD, even if bright.
Oh, I see. So, in the future LG will supply flexible display too all type of smartphone. Those companies are representing IOS, Android and Windows. Not bad of a deal LG get itself into. Kudos to LG.
