B Jay, 28 Jan 2011I'm not saying about every american. I have many american friends. I'm referring to those who ... more"Give me a reason why they don't praise Nokia."
Give me a reason why they should?
Processor speed? Screen resolution? UI?. Oh, yes, 12Mpix camera and OTG, like without them life on earth is not possible.
I tell you why I changed from Nokia (X6) to Android (SGS).
Hideous design for the X6. Problems with ovi apps. Not working, no refund. Ovi maps not really free, need internet connection to find addresses, needed A-GPS so in roaming it costs money, Browser: crap crap, crap. UI: Crap, crap, crap. Bought spb shell to feel better, but that took half the RAM to run.
Why SGS? Great design, great screen, beautiful UI(plenty of launchers, widgets), plenty of free apps, powerful, fast browser, Flash 10.1, great usability, bigger screen, easier to use.
Why no N8? Not much different from X6 except the design and camera. I would have hate it too in the end.
doyd, 28 Jan 2011the biggest reason why we buy nokia is you get a good value 4 ur money,an all in one device.so... moreJailbreak the damn thing! Although i've read you can download many usefull apps for free right from Apple Store.
B Jay, 28 Jan 2011I'm not saying about every american. I have many american friends. I'm referring to those who ... moreAgreed. Nokia is being ingored systematically by sites, in which anything about Adroid or iPhone is headline news...
Some guy from Greece, 28 Jan 2011-- Again, I would like to see some factual data showing these "capabilities"
I've... moreThis is jagd btw. From your post i see that your poiny is you are more familiar with symbian. However bring more familiar with a certain os does not make it more capable or functional and as you have stated is based on your opinion. What i asked for is still hard evidence an instance where symbian can perform a function that android can not. Lets not get into usb otg as i have already posted many links with information on how usb otg is merely driver functionality and most on android has no use for it hence no developement for it. Symbian can be functional, any device can given it has adequate hardware and time for developement.
Symbian took a long time just to add in threaded sms. Also those four buttons you speak of are convenience buttons you dont need to use them to use the os. Infact i rarely use 1 of those buttons as is and thats the home button. Android and ios is much easier device os to use that is not even and arguable statement. Ios user friendlyness is basically what caused smartphones to sell so well this is innovation by apple undeniable.
it will be better if they too board the Andriod bandwagon.

I've posted factual data before. Which aren't factual really, they are very subjective. It means that they work for me but maybe not for you. It shouldn't come as a surprise, we are different after all. It's natural to perceive a certain situation differently.
So, how do i perceive Symbian?
1. It is the OS of devices that i'm interested in. Some Nokia devices favor Symbian with their hardware. (some don't of course)
2. I'm faster with it and lot more comfortable. It feels like home. When we talk about ease of use, being familiar with the UI is crucial. I don't have to go through a learning process. I just navigate with such a comfort from the moment i'll put it my hand. Visual and structural resemblance with previous Symbians works like a charm with me.
3. It has all the necessary functions and features. Nothing is missing really.
4. It is more predictable in the way fuctions like camera, messages, etc work. For instance, i always get the options at the bottom left of the screen.
5. It is well organised and if not i can put functions where ever i want to make it easier to get to them.
6. It doesn't need four "physical" buttons. I perceive them as unnecessarily complicated. (latest Adroids, like Galaxy Ace, have two and a midle like Symbian - much better)
If reviewers can't see what i do, it isn't my fault. Either i should change my taste to fit with theirs.
Anonymous, 28 Jan 2011I think you have your stories mixed up my friend. Motorola's downfall wasn't due to Nokia, it ... moreRazrs had good build quality and very attractive design. I still have a perfectly working Razr v3.1.
Razr was the one who saved Motorola. And I'm talking about pre smartphone era.
the biggest reason why we buy nokia is you get a good value 4 ur money,an all in one device.some here dnt have visas and mastercard to purchase apps online and nokia understands that, even ovi maps coms wit free lifetime gps.i would have bought an iphone bt then i wil be limited to itunes and app store 4 the rest of my life, thts imprisonment,if u have an iphone im sure to make it atlist somthn u can use in ur daily activity wil cost u twice the amount u bought it.my n8 was usd500 and thts all i paid and i have evrythn i need and more
B Jay, 28 Jan 2011Remember, how Motorola was nearly doomed due to arrival of Nokia phones in market? But it has... moreI think you have your stories mixed up my friend. Motorola's downfall wasn't due to Nokia, it was due to shoddy phone builds, ugly new designs and redundant rehashed devices, and horrible phone interface. The RAZR series initially was very successful, it sold quite well due to it's design at the time. However due to bad build quality devices died quickly. Then came the infamous rehashing of Motorola, RAZR, RAZR 2, KRAZR, ROKR, etc etc. Obviously Motorola can't make any new phones, much like how Nokia is now. 5800? 5230? 5233 etc etc. X6 32GB, X6 16GB, X6 8GB? Whats next? X6 4GB? Nokia's saving grace back then was that Symbian was indeed a good OS compared to everyone else at the time, however they failed to adapt to the changing market and clung to Symbian and that is their downfall today.
[deleted post]I'm not saying about every american. I have many american friends. I'm referring to those who run sites like Engadget, Gizmodo etc. Give me a reason why they don't praise Nokia. And then people read those useless articles and say what they read. Their choices are controlled though they might not feel so. In a competition everybody can't win. But partiality is affecting judgement.
Remember, how Motorola was nearly doomed due to arrival of Nokia phones in market?
But it has lost popularity and it is very difficult to gain it back even if it makes best phones.
Thanks to iphone and android users that they nearly brought the end of old symbian. The phones are no more just phones. They are becoming computers and soon both will merge together. Thus the competition will increase, sales will go down. Nokia is already planning for the future. Apple dosen't need to but Android is in danger zone.
[deleted post]Nokia isn't having problems just in the US buddy. In most asian countries, Nokia's overall market share shrunk to 31%. That's over all, not just in smart phones. In many European countries the iPhone outsells N8 6 to 1. It's not about patriotism or country of origin. It's about appealing to the market and Nokia obviously doesn't know how to do that. I'm looking very forward to Meego believe it or not. Since it was announced that MeeGo will have hardware requirements Nokia will be forced to actually put out a decent mobile device instead of the craptastic 2006 specs mobile phones they sell. If Nokia can't deliver something so simple such as a better hardware equipped mobile phone then that's just tough luck for them. I'm looking forward to Huawei's IDEOS X6 Mobile phone. Just the looks of the phone itself is stunningly beautiful.
Anonymous, 28 Jan 2011HI i am from EUROPE and i think ANDROID is best OS for smartphones and i really think Symbia... moreBut where is the choice? Nokia provides it. I don't consider iphone a choice. I phone costs Rs. 60,000 in India for 32GB unlocked model. i.e. $1200, and what do we get? nothing!
And Nokia provides better features at lower price. Nokia N900 was a very good mlbile computer with phone. iphone 4 cannot beat it. Only the lack of large app. market doomed it.
And it's camera is better, browser is a hundred times better with flash support, ui is better, has got a physical qwerty but a normal screen.
High pixel density LCD or retina display is useless. It is still an LCD. Though better than N900's LCD. But N900 is many times better than iphone and androids. Because it is a computer with a phone, not a phone with computer.
B Jay, 28 Jan 2011Let the meego devices come. Andriod and iphone will be doomed...I thought Android and iOS were suppose to be "doomed" with the launch of the N8 and Symbian^3? No? Okay, we'll wait for MeeGo to be released... if that doesn't bring doom to android and iOS are we gonna wait for Nokia's "No-Go" OS(get it? No- go? Nokia will be dead by then so there won't be an OS after MeeGo, hence NO Go)?
Nobody doesn't ask Apple to have Android or all the brands of phones using Android to adopt IOS, so stop your stupid american national game to ask Nokia to adopt your OS. Nokia know what they do and do it good, by connecting people with Symbian an soon Meego.
Anonymous, 28 Jan 2011The e63, Nuron, c5, 5250, 5230, 5233 and 5235 all cost less than 100 euros. Are you telling me... more"The e63, Nuron, c5, 5250, 5230, 5233 and 5235 all cost less than 100 euros. Are you telling me that nokia couldnt sell 12 million of these? heck, the 523x series alone could have sold more than that."
Retail prices for E63: 165 Euro
http://www.prijzeninfo.nl/gsm/nokia-e63/1/645
5250: 123; 5230: 130,
http://www.prijzeninfo.nl/gsm/nokia/1
So Nokia shall get only 60-80% from those prices if they sell them under 100 Euro. I do not believe they do.
And BTW, some of those phones are obsolete( see their release dates, e.g. E63-nov 2008), I'm sure they did not sold 12 million in Q4.
Anyhow, Why is Nokia nor releasing the N8 sale numbers? Are they ashamed?:).
Myself, 28 Jan 2011except no mobile OS is technicalf half as capable as Symbian(save fer Maemo)Again, I would like to see some factual data showing these "capabilities" you fanboys keep spouting? You keep saying Symbian is 1234094092384x more functional than any other Mobile OS. Show me some proof?
