insted go for two platform just consotrate in symbian with complete rebuild this will work because symbian has strong market forget meego with one device.
There is some evidence to suggest that this memo is not authentic. There are a number of errors in it that Elop is unlikely to make in such a memo. Here's a link that describes these errors and explains why this memo cannot be authentic: http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2011/02/the-nokia-ceo-burning-platform-memo-at-engagdget-doesnt-ring-true-to-my-ears.html
I'm glad someone from nokia finally admitted that they are not doing what they should or could be doing. I'm glad that he sees their faults but, now I hope they do something about it. It's pointless for a drug addict to finally admit he/she has a problem if he never seeks help or fixes it. So I hope they finally bring a phone to the market that blows the iPhone out of the water.
Every post on this website is always taken over by nokia fanatics. Such blindness / ignorance over years has taken the entire mad family down. And you guys are still going gaga over a spent force. It's just a device. Dive into whatever is good and move on. Technology only enables your life.. your life is not solely for a phone! And all you fans put together do not contribute to a huge cut in terms of any company's operative profits. Walk out of your egos and live for the moment!
Sorry for my duplicate post. I posted in the n8 forum.
Stephen Elop's memo - wow, ouch... :O|
Whether all true or not, having that memo get out like that probably was not good for morale at Nokia.
I'm a fan of Nokia because they are different. I don't want to be like everyone else, just saying.
I'm in USA and purchased the N8. I've used Nokia for many, many years....
Nokia wonders why USA doesn't support Nokia, it's because AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile never got the good Nokias. The only get the crap Nokia $20 phones. You always have to buy unlocked to get a decent Nokia in USA. Sorry, but people in USA are not going to pay top dollar for Nokia when you can get an iphone or android phone for pennies with a 2 year contract.
Wow, I just can't get over that memo, pretty rough, but hey Stephen Elop is in charge, lets see what he can do. I look forward to hearing the changes...
hey guys, I see a lot of coverage for Nokia. Something is cooking. Hehe.
Forget MEEGO, there's already an OS better than Symbian they could have pushed out MAEMO though the name sounds a little bit dull but it can easily be rebranded and refaced if UI is what sells phones these days.
I feel they need to decide what they gonna roll with rather than having one OS for the high end another for the mid end and yet another for lower end, it's a waste of resources in very difficult economic times. Rebuild Symbian again coz it's now obvious that the last rebuild has failed to work, N8 is a couple months old now, released with a web browser that is probably the reason why Jobs is in such poor health "must have laughed his self to sickness after seeing it" yet they don't move to solve this issues when Web browsing is such an integral part of the whole Smartphone experience. To me it signals a problem somewhere.
Droid Rampage, 10 Feb 2011The thing with this guy is that he was put into power by American investors. They want to have... moreIts not about being american or not. Its about firing worthless staffs that are causing the company to be stagnent, especially those that like to play office politics.
i have faith in nokia.... I know times are hard for Nokia.....quality is being outsold for beauty....but someday nokia will beat that.....NOKIA will redefine the meaning of smartphone ... Nokia isn't a company ..its a part of our daily family... Just think your life without nokia phones... I ask everyone to just be patient and have faith.... Its just a matter of few times that nokia comes out with a phone with a striking balance..... Just like the n95... Remember its not just a phone its who we are... I am proud of using a nokia device.... Love you nokia..
Anonymous, 09 Feb 2011Obviously this stephen Elop that said this comment must be an imposter! He is probably a ninja... moreits good for nokia to realize this, hope they can join google's ecosystem, so they can take fully advantage of this platform before loyal supporters(including me) fed-up with their products. i hope less than 18 months, we will see nokia's handphone together with android OS. (they realy should do this to capture android supporter). Then Nokia will rise again to the peak.....
kyuubiflame, 10 Feb 2011i guess he's blind as hell cause what is Ovi they have Ovi life tools Ovi Maps mobile/W... moreYou actually think you know Nokia and their OS better than their CEO? If he is blind you are actually no better than he is.

The Great Buddha says it right when he said "Nothing is permanent". You can't be No.1 for life. There will always be someone else to take your place. Anyway, I hate Apple. More so with Steve Jobs forming an alliance with that conservative Rupert Murdoch who likes to spread lies and propaganda using his FOX channel.
It's good to hear him admit the mistakes and identify where they've gone wrong.
I surely hope Nokia can turn themselves around - by the time my contract runs out in mid-2012 would be nice, as at this point I'm seriously considering switching to Android.
Mista Calais, 10 Feb 2011I can read, and I did read that, there might be a major overhaul for Symbian and that might be... moreThe thing that makes me suspicious is that Nokia is not hyping MeeGo the same way as HP hypes WebOS 2 or Microsoft hypes WP7. Could this be that they will be dropping it as well? The memo gives us a lot of hints as to what will happen on the 11th. MeeGo was supposed to launch late 2010 but it was delayed when Elop took over as CEO and no reason was given. The supposed N9 hardware was ready since last summer.
"Apple [...] redefining the smartphone ..."
--> good luck to nokia now. apple didnt do anything but market themselves well. there was no innovation or revolution caused by apple. no feature was new when iphone was introduced with the exception of multitouch (which they did not invent either). if the new ceo honestly thinks that apple did create something extraordinary then he does not know much about phones.
nokia had many innovations. for example nokia made the first phone with an accelerometer: nokia 5500. but many ppl still dont know this. nokia had an online store (accessible from the phone) where u cud buy apps before apple made phones. however, i have never seen an advertisement for nokia. if they have a marketing division, they shud be fired immediately. after the nokia n95, all their good ideas came to an end. the n95 was the most advanced phone of its time. but look at the phones nokia now sells. none of them use a 1ghz cpu, only 1 phone has 800x480 resolution (n900) the rest only go up to 360x640 (even on screens as big as 4" like e7) while most r 320 x 240, they have very good cameras on some phones but they dont record video very good (qcif resolution at 15fps if qcif is possible, usually its vga only, wvga at 25fps only on n900, the competition offers 720p at 30fps and 1080p is coming soon at 24fps)... what happened? they used to have the best hardware. they seem to be focusing mostly on the low end phones and they already have enuf options. those ppl will not care which phone they get as long as its cheap makes calls and sends msgs. spending time designing anymore phones for the low end will be time wasted.
it might have looked like a good investment at the time for nokia when they bought symbian, but they shud give it up before they lose more market share and then switch to a better os. symbian is not good to begin with and on a touchscreen its just as bad. instead of taking several months to adapt an outdated software to accept touchscreen support, they should have gone with an alternative os altogether which was developed from the ground up with touchscreens in mind.
i am not a nokia fanboy and i doubt i will be after my poor experience with many of their phones. in my opinion the best phone manufacturers are htc (good hardware/build quality, ui), moto (great comeback after pathetic performance, some phones have great hardware like atrix), se (good design, ui), and maybe lg (because of the optimus 2x, 3d, and black they wud have great hardware. maybe these will be disappointing tho so im not sure yet)
Tears drinker, 10 Feb 2011Ahhhh, sweet tears of hardcore nokia fanboys, even your beloved Nokia CEO admits Nokia sucks b... moreRemember, Moto rose from the almost-dead to become one of the major Android phone makers. Nokia can do the same; they can re-invent themselves. I just hope that Nokia won't be on WP7 as the platform is still too young but I suspect this CEO is a Microsoft trojan horse and will sell-out Nokia to WP7.
