Then after that, what is this?

http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2011/02/the-nokia-ceo-burning-platform-memo-at-engagdget-doesnt-ring-true-to-my-ears.html

I think Nokia shouldn't go to any existing ecosystems like Android or WP7 because they have MeeGo. If Stephen worried about launching only one MeeGo phone by the end of 2011, then think of Apple whose phones were only released one by one each year. Nokia should bring their updates for Symbian fast enough to attract costumers and investors (if this updates are worth of a fuss!).

Good luck Nokia for this year.

Nokia and Intel should spend all their time working on MeeGo to make it the best OS in the market. They should not go to andriod and WP7 ,they wont be original like that.

Nokia shouldnt go WP7 on there upcoming models, because that will just fail, windows mobiles are far from taking over any market share.

Finally, one wise man from Nokia had spoken, although his wake up call came a little bit late, but I think Nokia can make it t te next level.
          Good Luck

SFAN, 09 Feb 2011US Market does NOT equal the world. Nokia still dominates because of other counteries and on ... moremay not be the world but it is a huge market, though not many are going to crack it as americans are very insular and tend to buy american products regardless of device efficacy

Would you guys just stop with the "nokia still dominates with there countries and low end products". The CEO admited this, he obviouls y knows a lot more than you, so if you think that selling low end products dominates then you really dont know the market, every business wants to be on top, and nokia is far away from being on top. So stop with the foolish talk and just tell yourself the CEO said there on a burning platform surounded by apple and android laughing at them. shaaaa bangg

As elop says nokias 'platform' ie symbian is burning. Nokia will soon elope with either android or w7 and they will be churning out babies ie mobiles fast just like chinese, and hope the siblings will be healthy. Nokia had no choice. It was do or die. Better late than never. Competitors run! nokia androids are coming!

In competitive markets, Symbian has been falling behind for the recent years, but Nokia's management (and Nokia fan-boys) have failed to notice this. Especially, the attempts to market Symbian on their flagship phones (N97 or N8) has been pathetic.

CEO has the balls to admit the failure (which is not his by the way). The question is: what now?

I'd say get a modern mobile OS for high-end phones and push Symbian to low end.

The problem with Nokia is having a CEO that doesn't understand anything about software -coming from Microsoft proves it lol-. Symbian is a great OS that could compete easily with Android or iOS, but lacks the UI experience. The rest is as good or better because it has been optimized since years ago for very slow hardware specs.

An OS that runs applications over a VM like Android needs monster hardware to move smoothly on heavy tasks and hardware fragmentation is a BIG problem.

iOS has a big conceptual problem, it's closed and there are things you can't simply make unless you jailbreak it.

Seriously, Symbian only needs a new UI, the rest of the OS is superb, including the migration to QT which is probably the best SDK for mobile phones.

And then you hear this guy saying Nokia is in a burning platform and they need to jump... where exactly? Being another Android or WP7 manufacturer won't give them back their share of the market, they simply will be another manufacturer, maybe even the best, but just another one. They don't need to jump to the ocean, they need no go one step up rebuilding their UI and discontinuing their support to the old Symbian apps and embracing new ones built with QT.

You sound like an ignorant person.
Furthermore, not everyone wants sophisticated OS's. For example, SHARP phones are very popular in the Japanese market because it's simple to use and it offers live TV stream. Also, Nokia have strong foundations in europe and asia.

I do have to admit that Nokia need Android OS for now because it doesn't seem MeeGO OS is ready anytime soon. Symbian^3 is horrible compare to Android and iOS interface.

                                    hi symbian fanboy,
your own boss said it, that symbian is an obstacle for the company.
and its a wrong decision to choose it as smartphone platform.
so.. for the sake of humanity dan future technology and development plis stop to defend it.

Nokia is out because of its attitude... I am the leader and failed to predict the upcoming technology brusts. Nokia always give less for more money (I do admit that Nokia threw quality products of their era in market).
Now they cannot attract developers community in an year or two for Meego or Symbian, Samsung Bada example is there. Nokia needs to play big brother's role and should go for joining hands with Android and WP7 on their reliable hardware. If they can ask Apple too for kinda iOs frenchise :)
                                      I believe this can return
