If a group of people is moving together and you decide to stay or slow down in fact you are moving backward as everybody moving forward... you will have a hard time catching up. I own three Nokia(N72, N82, E72) but have switched to Iphone recently.

I would prefer if Nokia adopts Android rather than WP7...

Nokia and Symbian have always been about being very open and customizable... therefore open Android would suit them rather than the very closed WP7.

I think the best strategy that nokia should come up would be to continue making a tablet phone and make internet tabs like ipad..since they are shrinking with smartphones..why not leave with it and go with tablet phones as their main dish...or use meego with intel core as their high end tablet phones,,windows for communicator and business phones,,symbian for music phones...and all with carl zeiss 12 or higher mp with large sensor...the only reason that u are behind with other company is u stick with symbian and u just change it with a diffrent hardware...its not just about the hardware but also the software and its other ingredients..i hope this nokia can recover...i love this brand since i was in grade school, about 10 years now ^_^ TC

Samsung is not even mentioned, which is Nokia's biggest rival.

The memo is genuine (Financial Times just confirmed it) and I have to applaud the Nokia CEO for being honest with himself, his company and the world. More companies need people like him at the top

Nokia is going to start making Android devices. What can be bolder than this? They can't make symbian upto the competition very soon. So only choice left with them is to borrow a good OS, ie Android. Which is open for everyone. Samsung, LG, HTC, are just cashing up based upon android. Its no big deal for Nokia. They can do this any day. And this is the time they should do this.

Android OS loads the apps in the RAM by default so when you need it, it's there in an instant not like your Symbian which will wait five to ten seconds to load and start the application. I ditched my Symbian smartphone because of that delay...

just to have a bit of fun speculating from the 'memo' - my guess is Nokia will:

                                  1. relegate Symbian to the very low-end phones, and basically stop further significant development of Symbian
                                  2. adopt WP7/Android for some midrange devices as a stop-gap measure to maintain revenue stream
                                  3. consolidate focus and internal development resources on Meego
