Do those people who oppose this partnership oppose it because MS is American or because Nokia with MS cannot produce a good product together? Right now, Symbian does not provide as good an experience for the user as Android or iOS. MeeGo is vapourware. While Nokia is trying to catch up, everyone else is pulling further ahead.
If MeeGo were here and provided a great user experience, then perhaps this partnership may not make sense. This announce suggests that MeeGo is not gong to be ready in time.
In any case, we will not truly know how successful Nokia will be until we see a device released with Nokia hardware running WP7.
AnonD-1196, 11 Feb 2011Nokia is nothing more but a "follower" now. Just like HTC, Motorola and Samsung are... morebut that fruit logo company still have problem with the law remember about steal technology from other company LoL
I am not really happy with this decision. Personally I do not like Windows (although my experiences was with Windows mobile on a Samsung Omnia) but I do like Nokia. A difficult decision to make. If Apple would make a phone with a real keyboard, then the choice would be much easier. For now I still thinking to buy a Nokia E7 instead of an iPhone 4.
The people who hate this probably never tried WP7 before which is a slicker interface than Android. They don't realize how outdated Symbian has become and how buggy and unimpressive Meego is. Nokia has never had much of a presence in the U.S.A. when it comes to smartphones. Microsoft benefits since Nokia still is a popular brand outside the U.S. How could people say they are in a coffin when neither one are in dire financial straits? Microsoft has billions to support WP7 for years if they want.
Anonymous, 11 Feb 2011o my god what is this ... symbian you are our hearts . i am crying for symbian .. Nokia do no... moreNokia got trojan horse that outsider make Nokia work destroy in second LoL
o my god what is this ... symbian you are our hearts . i am crying for symbian .. Nokia do not foRgot symbian make you on the top ... my frist nokia symbian phone was 6600 . nokia why you killed themselves and symbian
So Meego goes down the drain. It was too good to be true, to have a truly open OS.
Techeye.net had an article titled Elop signs "No to Nokia" petition in leaked memo about 6hrs ago did anyone get to read it coz it since been deleted
[deleted post]$45 billion!! not even Apple would turn that offer down. Symbian was never gonna make that much money so Nokia gain all the way.
MeeGO should by primary os
Nokia should have choose freedom with Android...they made the biggest mistake of their live! Microsoft gave Nokia a big amount of money to get primary OS over symbian and meegoo...Anyway won't change anything! Nokia is going down with Windows Mobile or Symbian or MeeGo!
Honestly, they should dump Symbian. I've used Symbian for years. I really don't think it's that horrible of an OS, but it's time for something drastic. Trying to maintain S^3, S60x, Meego and Windows Phone 7 is going to be exhausting. Though, with the range of devices they make, having Symbian around would be great for the lower end. Still, it would almost make sense to make S40 available for the low-end, Meego for the mid to high, and Windows Phone 7 for the high end.
It still feels like two many baskets and not enough eggs, but... Ugh... Honestly, I'm just glad they're trying something new. Now, can they get the build quality back up to a reasonable level. It started with my E90's bad microphone and has plagued just about every Nokia I've had (or wanted to buy) since. Self mutilating camera covers, panels that fall off, dust under screens, sliders that wobble, components that cause freezes and failures and untested and buggy release software cannot exist in this market place anymore.
Nokia is nothing more but a "follower" now. Just like HTC, Motorola and Samsung are. No identity. No OS of their own that could compete, so they have to partner with Microsoft to have a competitive OS for their device. Apple is the true leader and innovator. They have their own phone, and OS to power their iphone. Poor Nokia fanboys :)
Windows connecting people
AnonD-171, 11 Feb 2011dude elop is trying to phase it out for WP7 in the next 2 years 'Phasing out' and 'dead' are worlds apart.
For what it's worth, i'm glad Nokia don't use Android.
It's a fantastic OS, but i want a choice when it comes to mobile operating systems.
I'm willing to bet, that you'll see some fantastic devices from the two combined companies and that iOS (as good as it is) will become stagnent.
Remember this day as the death of nokia, android would have been a much better choice.
abhi, 11 Feb 2011Who failed to innovate? Was it the employees, or management? Now, who is paying the price for ... moreYou are so right the bane of peoples lifes are managers who think they know it all,THEY DO NOT.Many a time at work i have been told how to do something and argued that it is wrong but ive had to do it the managers way,,next day the whole days work is ripped to shreds cause its wrong and i was right in the first place,,waste of my effort and time and i suppose profit..
Many people loved the N95 but nokia did nothing,,many wanted the e90 but bang up to date, nokia did nothing,,companys who dont listen lose.
How many times over the past years have peole offered free to test for Nokia?? Nokia could have put a 100 people up in a secret hotel and tell them to hammer the fones to find oput the bugs but NO they do nothing.
Its been a horrible day but at least symbian is still alive and thats all that matters.
I don't see the problem with this move at all from Nokia. I think this is just the beginning for Nokia and will move along to Android.
Will this deal make any difference? Sorry, as WM 7 uses high hardware specs as minimum, what are the mid-range to low-end handsets going to work on, S40 still? HTC have gone from 0-100mph in two years, Nokia are still never going to be ahead of the pack in Smartphones I feel. N8 owners fear not, your phone may go dead (on it's own!) long before any updates, mine went dead in hours!
