Soc sources aren't enough to build rom.
You can find sources on HTC Sony or Lenovo that use Mediatek (not always full sources)
Some people even develop nougat on some exotic devices.

If famous brands use Mediatek, you will get sources

But you don't critisize Qualcomm?
AnonD-237381, 09 Feb 2017MediaTek won't share the codes for their SoC's, that alone is a complete deal breaker. Mediatek's slogan "quality compromised" "cheaper is the good reaper"

I'm tester, I prefer SD but I'll tell you to don't underestimate MT just because they cheap price or other thing. This company grow up and get better, they will catch up overall again Qualcomm for sure, just wait. MT make our team surprise every year more than every other vendor do, they improvement is real and it's good to buyer. WHY I PREFER SD RATHER THAN MT, cause I'm using Flagship class, that why. If I want midranger than I never afraid to choose MT since probably I have test that phone before buy it. MT quality in Midrange chipset is good and decent.

Helio P series is just unworthy
16nm helio p20 scores 64k antutu (vs 14nm sd625 62k).The helio p20 support lpddr4x ram upto 6gb (vs lpddr3 sd625).Helio p20 loads asphalt Xtreme faster than sd625 in Asus Z3. I want to ask how p20's successor p25 supposed to be less powerful than sd200, also Sony opted to go with helio p20 in upcoming smartphone instead of sd625

MT's Helio P20 Antutu benchmark is about the same as QC's SD650 (P20 is ~4% faster) while using much less power. Helio P25 should be more on par with SD653 (& again, lower power consumption due to simpler cores & 16nm process).

Zargan, 08 Feb 2017Another octa A-53 garbage from Mediatek. Why dont they make a SOC with 2 A73+4 A35? This will ... moreThe "P" series is aimed towards being power-efficient (and low-cost) above everything else, hence the exclusive use of super efficient A53 cores. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if MediaTek took a step forward (or backward, depending on who you ask) by changing their LITTLE cores in their big.LITTLE configuration to even more efficient A35 cores.
To ensure that the chipset stays reasonably powerful, MediaTek uses the same trick as in the Snapdragon 625, that is clocking the cores to a substantially high frequency. However, if you want to see the actually powerful chipsets that MediaTek makes check out their X20 - X27 (which employ 2 A72 cores) as well as the upcoming X30 chipset (which is supposed to employ the extremely powerful A73 cores).
Hope this answered your question :)
