ZolaIII, 23 Feb 2017The old quad cluster Rogue is just 40% faster than MALI T880MP4 & presumably equally large... moreOn GPU, frequency should put X30 (4x820) between Apple A9 (6x450) and A10 (6x670)...Considering A9 is faster than Exynos 8890 (even offscreen) that's good

Like I said,

Don't look the count of cores and mesure real framerate in game...
Even with the same settings, there's often big surprises...

Like Kirin 950 which run Real Racing 3 faster than Exynos 8890...Despite theory says mp12 is faster than mp4

Someone Else, 23 Feb 2017Don't get your hopes up. Even though the Exynos 8895 CAN support 4k video capture @ 120 fps , ... moreThere are much better last generation licensable IP DSP's from both Tensilica and CEVA both quite capable of achieving 4K 120 FPS recording with H265 codec high profile than the QC QDSP 680. They are also much better in VC & machine learning.

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2017Problem... These huge GPU are made to hit the scores in benchmarks. See long term performa... moreAfter cuple more minutes they also run horrible on Kirin 95x even the A510 throttles down to a 450 MHz (from 600 MHz) after pushed hard (much harder than in used benchmarks) for more than a 30 minutes & that is by far the best GPU currently regarding its sustained performance.

kris, 23 Feb 2017GPU is 20 core MP20 not 18. Not sure where GSMArena got their info. So it is, I updated the table. Earlier there was information on two versions - M with 20 cores and V with 18 GPU cores - but Samsung's official sites lists only the 20-core version. Oh well, the more, the merrier.

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2017Mistakes on X30 It's not 4xA73 + 4xA53 It's Decacore It's (probably) 2xA73 2.8Ghz 4xA53... moreThe old quad cluster Rogue is just 40% faster than MALI T880MP4 & presumably equally larger/power hungry. On the other hand G71 MP8 is 1.6x size of a T880 MP4 (same goes for power consumption) while delivering 190% performance. Theoretically the Mali G71 MP8 at 900MHz or MP12 at 600~650MHz on 10nm FinFET or 22nm FD-SOI culd have a good sustainable performance (consuming as much as 75~80% of energy that Mali T880 MP4 at Kirin 95x consumes at 14nm FinFET) & keep in mind how A73's will also left a little more place for a thermal envelope. All in all still not enough for VR but at least getting to a sweet spot regarding FHD gaming.

I didn't put in PowerVR and Adreno core counts because they are not directly comparable with Mali cores, so I thought it would help avoid confusion.

But your core config is little wrong. It is as follows...

4x A73 cores at 2.8GHz
4x A53 cores at 2.2GHz
2x A53 cores at 2.0GHz

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2017finally a mali GPU that can go neck to neck with the adreno 540 beast. kirin and pinecone wil... moreProblem...

These huge GPU are made to hit the scores in benchmarks.
See long term performances of Exynos 8890 or SD820...on many devices they throttle by half...that's the same on all Snapdragon or Exynos high end soc (not on Apple's one...and I dislike them)

After a few minutes, many games run better on Kirin 950 with MaliT880Mp4 than on Exynos 8890 with MaliT880Mp12!!!...with same settings.
Exemple : Real Racing 3 (XTRA High), Galaxy S7 Exynos 43fps, Mate 8 60fps...(game is rendered in 1080)

Instead of seeing benchmarks or counting the cores, people should verify if performances are stable (with fps counter like Gamebench)

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2017finally a mali GPU that can go neck to neck with the adreno 540 beast. kirin and pinecone wil... moreno one will notice in everyday use but believe me, this g71 will only(AT BEST) catch up on the adreno 530 from last year.. wait and see if you don't believe me...write back (and confirm my statement) in 3 months after both versions are out..

Adrenos are basically AMD Radeon Gpu's.. thats why only Nvidia (k1, x1, p1, xavier) can fight them..
Exynos\Mali are less power consuming though...

Mistakes on X30
It's not 4xA73 + 4xA53

It's Decacore
It's (probably)
2xA73 2.8Ghz
4xA53 2.5Ghz (latest rumors)
4xA35 2.0Ghz

GPU is 4 cores PowerVR 7XT Plus (it performs like Mali 8 cores)

PLAYER SLAYER, 23 Feb 2017There's no reason why we can't have DSLR camera quality in smartphones, you know ;)There are "million reasons" why phones can't be as good as professional DSLRs right now... Firstly it doesn't have enough space for a sensor so big, the biggest sensor in a smartphone in 2016 was 1/2.3", which is 31 times smaller than a full frame sensor...but most smartphone users are not professional photographers, so its "small" sensor is more than enough for a good looking instagram pic if you know how to use it

There is no way S8 will even have the ability to record 4K 120fps...Maybe they are working at some kind of action cam, which could have a decent enough cooling
