Now let's hope the phones using that sensor will not be bulky, as the Samsung with the 10x optical zoom(S5 zoom if I remember right).

This is similar to the folded mechanism used by Panasonic I think in one of their early ultra slim compact cameras. In a phone, it will allow for way better image quality and genuine optical zoom. Amazed Panasonic or other camera company didn't think of doing this before by producing a module for phone manufacturers.

This is incredible, 5x optical zoom without a crazy big sensor. :O...in a short time we will have more phones with optical zoom

Interesting. And the 5.7mm could allow for a sensor not more ridiculously small than what we see most smartphones/phablets are forced to use due to their thinness anyway.

PERSONALLY I would much rather have a say 10-12mm thin device with a less tiny sensor. The extra space could give us back a sturdy construction with a removable backplate and battery for easier service...

I really hope that when foldable devices get real, they will let the camera occupy the full folded 'thickness' to allow for better optics. And fine if combined with this periscope technique also.

Just a thought: IF the already tiltable prism is 45 degree and was tilted a full 90 degree, they could use the same periscope and sensor to do the front camera in the same module...

Bravo, Oppo, you've done a great job with this internal 5x zoom , next year someone in the quality team will snatch the idea for their phones, like Sony, Apple, Samsung, LG or HTC.
