Earlier rumours suggested a lightning & USB-C compatible combo port would be forthcoming. I'd put my money on that change rather than a strictly USB-C port.
When another company use type C usb on their new phones, everything is great and everyone love it, but when apple/iPhone rumors to use type C usb on their new phone everyone lost their shit even it is 80% not true
I won't take a pinch of salt about the iPhone 8 costing more than a thousand dollars
AnonD-585264, 28 Feb 2017That's a clever move by Apple. Market will adopt USB type C. With the removal of 3.5 mm headph... moreThis! While another port switch would be a slight nuisance, I'd gladly take Type-C over the Lightning connector. When it was time to buy a new iPhone Plus this past November, I deliberately purchased the 6s Plus in response to the headphone jack removal. I own Bluetooth headphones and I don't like them. I use wired earbuds every day. I was dreading the next iPhone purchase because of this issue. If they switch to Type-C, iOS users who still prefer wired headphones would not be stuck having to re-up on Lightning headphones and ridiculous dongles. We could chose from a plethora of Type-C wired buds once they start infiltrating the market. Which is precisely why I don't see Apple making this switch. It goes against every strong arm technique they use. Offer a simple, quality, reliable phone - appeal to the masses - gouge them for every proprietary accessory possible.
AnonD-535480, 01 Mar 2017What? What is your comment even mean? Your comment would make sense if I were making claims ... moreIt exactly what its mean. I simply elaborate more on your point. There is no need to say Apple made usb c or even argue who made it because many people involved in making it. I see it as pointless seeing you people talking about who created usb c so, I simply want to point out there is nothing special about it as they are only among the few of many people creating it. To conclude, no one should take credit for anything as I see it unfair.
Anonymous, 01 Mar 2017for fast charging they are using usb type-c portWait they don't already have fast charging?
that would so piss off the people who just bought a bunch of lightning port adpators just this year for example for earphones.
Julliard, 01 Mar 2017True. However, Intel is still the main inventor of usb c. Apple just help a little bit and so ... moreWhat? What is your comment even mean? Your comment would make sense if I were making claims that Apple is the sole creator of USB-C (which I did not). All I said to the previous poster is that 18 out of the 79 engineers were from Apple. The previous poster was the one claiming Apple had no hand in this (as usual). Some of us may want to close our eyes and ears when it comes to give Apple credits on anything. The same team who created lightning is the same team who also took part in the usb-c group.
Fly Sheikh, 28 Feb 2017This is unlike apple. I hope they don't make it impossible for their cables to work on other d... moreCorrection, this move would actually allow people to connect their iPhones and iPads to their Macs as they are currently unable to do so unless they have 2 to 3 dongles attached in series...just to connect an Apple mobile device to an Apple PC.
The time for Apple to adopt USB C on iPhones and iPads has already passed, everything since iPad Pro and iPhone 7, should have had USB C, not Lightning.
AnonD-294498, 01 Mar 2017"It'll be a lower speced Samsung" that rapes any Samsung flagship, every year, for the past 10 yearsLast I checked, Samsung profits are soaring while Apple profits and sales are plummeting....
What ever you said bro, this phone will sell even it dont have USB port! Why? That fruit logo! That what people want, love, like, and defend. That logo is more than what inside the phone. So what ever you do, like or hate, it will sell! Coz that logo is status!Who care about inside while we have that fruit logo on back, that fine!
Apple is the best , they removed 3.5mm headphone jack , really did a good job , how long will you use such an old port ? it's time to change , try something new and powerful , soon USB Type-C will take place of it which is really a good thing because USB Type-C is going to be common in all devices in future , Type-C is the future and latest technology with high speed transfer upto 5 & 10 Gbps speed , Type-C will be used for charging , data transfer , display , I think all devices in future should adopt Type-C and remove all old ports and connectors and cables .
AnonD-24741, 01 Mar 2017So, it will literally be a lower spec'ed Samsung phone through and through, with a fruity logo... morebtw, since when is usb-c is a samsung thing?!? samsung zomby-fan detected!!!

This is very unlikely to happen because apple might loose some revenue on royalties from different manufacturers of lightning ports.
AnonD-535480, 01 Mar 2017You do know almost 1/4 of the engineers who created USB-c were from Apple right?True. However, Intel is still the main inventor of usb c. Apple just help a little bit and so are many other companies like Seagate, ACON, TYCO, JAE, Dell, HP, Agilent Technologies, Cypress Semiconductor, Display Link, Foxconn and so on. Apple is just a another grain in a beach of sands full of engineers. USB technologies cannot actually be invented by one company because its a peripheral device that need to be connected to various other devices. These people work together to ensure the usb c can work with all the technology around us. It would be nonsense if Apple act so proud of something that invented through various collaboration.
