IMO Samsung managed to convert I-sheep to S-sheep.
See: people buying strange curved screens are the same that were fooled by "retina display" or "lightning connector".
At least the tech aware community should start to give a lesson to such behavior.
they need to make up the money they lost last year from the note 7 fiasco
And haters say Sony or any other brand is overpriced but what now? This phone is the Ugliest of 2017 with nothing new or innovative.
Another overprice devise by Samsung but now hit the flagship class lol

Jacky, 27 Mar 2017I think the only OEM that can charge above 700$ for a phone is Apple. No other manufacturer h... moreExactly my thoughts. Apple can charge this much. But that still would be expensive to me.
pika2000, 27 Mar 2017Those who are getting the Note series are the same people getting the S series, for status sym... moreTech inclined rich people still care about status symbol so they don't buy one plus atleast. One plus and pixel aren't technologically superior than galaxy S and Note.
All the hardware justifies its value but not when its maker doesn't offer an O.S. of its own.
At this particular price, one would at least expect the very best material : titanium + Sapphire crystal and a waterproof-built up to 30 meters, why not....let's see what this AKG audio sounds like but if that's what drove that price up then i'd buy that phone without the headphones.
bigly, 27 Mar 2017Life's too short to just wait around, if you have the money and really want this phone then I ... moreIt's better to wait about 1 year. Last year's flagships always have better value for price than flagships from actual year. And you don't lose anything (that would justify the price difference) by going with last year's flagship.
Samsung IS becoming Apple...they thought their fan would just buy their flagships... I know a lot of different between Samsung and Apple flagship, but with that price....company milking every money they can..
Xperia xz premium much better, newer innovation and much cheaper than this
In my opinion pricing a phone like this after what happened with the Note 7 is quite a bad idea. Samsung needs to regain their trust before charging so much, especially after having a recall of approximately 2.5 million phones.
I think the only OEM that can charge above 700$ for a phone is Apple.
No other manufacturer has IOS so there is no alternative for the OS.
They are updating their devices for 5 years and no other manufacturer does that.
I don't need to buy a 1000$ Samsung phone because i can buy a Xiaomi or Meizu phone for 200$ and still enjoy Android.
I'm not a fan of any brand, I use a Samsung Galaxy S4 as my main phone, An IPad Air 2 and a PC. Just think before you buy something...
AMR M., 27 Mar 2017samsung will learn a lot in 2017, after the note 7 prices should go down not up really and sam... moreFalse.
Oppo keeps pushing their models into premium category.
Even Vivo is doing that as well, pricing the V5 "higher" than what one would expect for the spec.
Samsung 2017 A series have higher price points than the 2016 models.
Sony is focussing on premium category as well, and it is working well for them.
Even Xiaomi, the cheap phone leader, is doing premium models like the Mi Mix.
It's called trying to make a profit. All of these OEMs realize they need to get better margins if they want to remain in business. You cannot run a business with thin margin forever. Can't blame them.
Jonas, 27 Mar 2017These are consumerism times, the number of people willing to give around 1000 euros for a new ... moreAs expensive a Galaxy S phone is, it is still cheaper than a car or a house. A car or a house were the de-facto status symbol. Since those are getting out of reach for many aspiring middle class, a phone is becoming the new status symbol (same thing like a wrist watch, handbags, etc).
It is normal, especially in developing countries where the emerging middle class has more disposable income, but not enough to buy a house or a car yet. Since you can simply rent an apartment and use Uber, those two are not as compulsory as before. A gadget like a smartphone is becoming the new status symbol.
Karly, 27 Mar 2017They should have made a smaller cheaper option. They do, it's called the A series. Too bad the 2017 A series is actually increasing in prices as well.
jesse.clark, 26 Mar 2017Rich people has two options in market, Samsung high end galaxy and Apple iPhone, the ones who ... moreThose who are getting the Note series are the same people getting the S series, for status symbol. There's a reason why Samsung released those two flagships at different times, not at the same time.
Rich technologically inclined people would still be rational if they are truly technologically inclined. They would rather pay a "premium" and import the OnePlus or Pixel phones than getting a Samsung. They are not looking at flashy/shiny curves, they are looking at spec and the OnePlus lineup offers better spec for the money. In short, rational people are still rational. Samsung is targeting non-rational rich people that goes for shiny curves and status symbol.
Nothing's wrong with that. Samsung found their strategy, and it is working well. Their pre-orders in developing countries have always been sold-out.
900 EUR + no commitment to X years of security updates + no removable battery = 100% no buy even though I can easily afford it. Once my S5 becomes unsupported with security updates I will switch to either an iPhone (4+ years of support) or a 300 EUR Android that is good enough at retaining value to sell and replace every ~18 months.
