3000 mAh but with 40% less power consumption on the latest SoC. S8 is as tall as the G5 and G6. Samsung just removed the home button and lengthened the display.
If you think the design is bad, the Note8 will pretty much look like the S8+. The iPhone Edition will probably look 80% like it but no curved display and a more convenient size at iPhone 7 height.
I hate iOS, iTunes lockdown, and boring, cartooony app icons in home screens. But Apple's 10th year anniversary iPhone Edition is probably the more exciting phone to get in 2017 over either S8 or Note8.
2017 - Apple iPhone Edition
2018 - Samsung Galaxy X
2019 - Google Pixel 4 (different OEM)
Before 2020, I also want to own a Nokia Android, Sony Xperia, and Huawei to complete my collection of different brands. Perhaps an upgraded Moto as well like the Z series. No TCL/BlackBerry KeyOne since I prefer SwiftKey over real QWERTY.
Don't care for OPPO/OnePlus. I always found OPPO overpriced and overrated and while their OnePlus offers good value, usually at the expense of an inferior display and camera. Can easily get branded flagship for cheap months later and superior in those areas.
Not going back to Xiaomi. I despise using their Mi Suite as no compatibility to my MacBook. My Pixel can't be recognized either. Only my LG G3 S, G5, and S7 edge could with Android File Transfer.
Zenodroid, 29 Mar 2017A phone is made to call and message. Everything else is just a gimmick ;-)haha i don't even call or message... i directly go to the person and meet them ;)
I'm surprised GSM didn't mention anything on the 6gb of ram in the article. You would have thought they would
Xain47, 29 Mar 2017Total disappointment! Size is huge! S8 is 148.9 too tall and still comes with tiny 3000mah bat... moreMy two biggest problems with the phone as well....
1. The 18.5:1 ratio looks weird.... maybe it will take a certain getting used to, but right now, it seems ugly to me. Would have preferred if they stuck with 16:9, or made a small change, e.g. 17:9.
2. That battery capacity is too low. For example, comparing S7 edge and S8, the latter has 1.5% higher surface area with slightly higher pixel density. However efficient 10nm is compared to 14nm... the battery life is surely going to suffer due to a 17% reduction in battery capacity. And slimness isn't an excuse either, because S8 has in fact gained 0.3mm in thickness, and despite a smaller footprint, has practically similar volume.
Finally, only a few hours more of waiting, to officially confirm everything we have seen and read regarding the S8. and despite all the rumors are pointing to a 4GB RAM & the 6GB variant only for the Chinese market, well, I'm still hoping for a 6GB optional (at least) for the international. And even more for stereo speakers.
Xain47, 29 Mar 2017Total disappointment! Size is huge! S8 is 148.9 too tall and still comes with tiny 3000mah bat... moreDo you even know what mm means? Its not that tall or big. S7 edge dimension is 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm and its only a 5.5" device. Compare to S7edge, S8 is shorter and narrower but slightly thicker. They could had fit bigger battery but maybe the new battery testing procedure they had implemented earlier this year wouldnt allow it to fit bigger battery for safety purposes. You would get a smaller phone compare to S7edge if you buy this S8. But my advice, you should keep your old phone if its still new. Dont pretend to be a hipster.
Ugly looking, not 4k low battery for its size. overpriced. NTY, DOA
thewaldone, 29 Mar 2017Awesome specs but the battery could be wanting. Stop this battery moaning: S8 WILL CONSUME LESS THAN S7 because of the 10 nm cpu and improved software power management. S8 practically will have better batterry lifetime than S7.
I bought yesterday from the grey market, a brand new, sealed S7 edge with 450 euro. This is almost half the price of S8 :)))) People must be very stupid to buy S8 in the first 6 month after launch. They test the phones direct on customers, on customers' money. After 6 month, price will drop 30%.
5.8 inches and only 3000 mah ??? i hope that 20 min charge time is real.
Now if they only made a third variant, say "8-" in phone size and with just FHD display....
It will be a select few with hyper mobile and extra long thumbs that will be able to use these two fully with one hand only, while keeping a secure grip... The rest of the world would need to use two hands...
