Great. After all that hype. Well atleast we know what NOT to look forward to this year!
If the Samsung they will be able to produce this type of phone, then I will forgive all mistakes. Achieving this type of phone will lead humanity to a quantum leap in its development. I would enjoy for every producer, regardless what name would wear, Samsung, LG, LeEco, Huawei, Sony, etc...It is time for humanity to make the leap to a new level of civilization.
Let's see which of the smart phone manufacturers will be able to be "opener" in producing these types of phones. For my part, I wish them all success. And I will be one of the first buyers of this type of phone, regardless of its price.
Well, so we have to wait another two years and even more. But meanwhile we can appreciate Note 8, S9, Note 9, S10, Note 10 and hopefully not the S11 as well? Hahaha
In principal it seems like a good idea, But many questions come to mind, Like light pollution to the display,Creases and damage to it from constantly being bended.
Probably and most importantly how much is said bendable phone going to cost? So far from what I have seen of the Samsung picture of the bendable phone it looks hideous and way to thick, Like a folded choclate bar.

LG will get there first maybe but like most of its phones except the V20 it will probably be no good and have last year's processor and hefty price tag like the G6 unless of course they go bankrupt in the meantime.
Not a great strategy for a market leader to try to maximize profit out of currently successfull products, rather than push innovation.
LG are having a hard time, so they are probably happy about this news, as that means that they can probably get there before Samsung, and steal the spotlight.
I do like the potential of the bendable display. think this is one of the few recent innovations that has real potential. Imagine a device the size of a mars bar, in your pocket. take it out and answer a call, pull out to 5 inch display for smart phone use, then put out further for 10" tablet mode.
That where this idea can potentially lead.
Ideas that have no legs that are being pushed (Wireless charging, face recognition, smart watches) and yet we poo poo this idea.
krystian, 04 Apr 2017That's just to demonstrate that the oled itself is easily foldable and doesn't need a backligh... moreFoldable connectors have been used since decades.. its the display that cant be folded sharply and reliably. Failed to realise that all flip phones have easy connector solutions? The oled panel is too fragile to be manipulated constantly, so doubts about that ever..
Sony The Innovator, 04 Apr 2017Can't wait to see a foldable phone with foldable camera, foldable motherboard, foldable glass,... moreYou won't think your comment is funny in a couple of years. Maybe they won't be able to fold cameras, since that does sound stupid, but they never even hinted this would ever be possible. On the other hand, the display and battery can and will be foldable, they'll probably fuse them togheter at some point. Flexible screens already exists and a new battery is in the works, thin as asheet of paper, but with better capacity and charge parameters. For now, the tech is young and probably that type of battery isn't extremely durable, but in 2 years time that can change.
So, instead of being sarcastic about something, keep an open mind, 20 years ago you weren't able to watch porn on your phone, but look at you now.
Anonymous, 04 Apr 2017You can probably fold Sony's battery's since they are so small And squeeze the bezels since they are so big
Anonymous, 04 Apr 2017It looks very stupid in the picture that box omg! No thanks That's just to demonstrate that the oled itself is easily foldable and doesn't need a backlight or anything behind it. Foldable phones will rely on some mechanism that can connect batteries or anything else between the hinges. These connectors would also have to survive the hinges mechanism to open/close constantly. Whoever figures that part out will bring it first. The screen innovation is already there.
RaghavaZ, 04 Apr 2017Lol. And you thought that for a phone? That's just holds the panel. LOL. That what holds the panel is the main problem lol wake-up you didn't catch it!
[deleted post]So you are getting a week battery life from your Sony phones with all those bezels. Wow that's great. What's capacity of that battery? 10,000mah? or 15,000mah?
Yeah problem with that is that Samsung has been teasing a foldable phone since 2013. There is also a risk that the novelty will fade away even before its launched.
Well, this sux. They've been making fold-able displays from at least 2009 and ~8 years later they're still holding that card >:(...
niklex, 04 Apr 2017"the bezel-less display sells well" - marketing kills innovations. Why do rush something new, ... moreWell as per him that new tech isn't ready for commercial purpose and also bezel less trend just started so what's point in hurrying things up?
Bailey, 04 Apr 2017Look the box thickness hahahahahaha epic fail Lol. And you thought that for a phone? That's just holds the panel. LOL.
"the bezel-less display sells well" - marketing kills innovations. Why do rush something new, if current sells well.
Sony The Innovator, 04 Apr 2017Can't wait to see a foldable phone with foldable camera, foldable motherboard, foldable glass,... moreYou will get to see how all those will be arranged in a foldable phone in 2019 or whenever that arrives. Until then you can sing songs like these.
