Sylvester20007, 05 Apr 2017PPI is higher only due to larger screen and thus more pixels going in one direction, not more ... moreNo. You are wrong. We called it pixel per inch for a reason. Every inch of the pixel increased in pixel count including the VR circle you talking about. Its not added in one direction like tapping a paper to another paper to make a longer paper. Lol.
Sony's CLEDIS technology is far better than any other technologies today. It's the only rival to OLEDs. It uses mLED technology which is non-backlight - yep, you've heard it right: "NON-BACKLIGHT ILLUMINATED."
With that, anyone can make a free aspect ratio of their own, and there's no need to waste a lot of pixels because 100ppi is as sharp as 1,000ppi IPS/AMOLED panel since the pixels, like their name says, are microscopic in size - perfect for VR fans
Zenodroid, 05 Apr 2017No phone are good enough for vr, with those small batteries. What? You're gonna spend 3+ hours on VR non stop? I bet you at least need to take a break after each movie which is more than enough to charge your android phone with quick charge.
And QHD+ is just enough for VR. Unless they're Apple fan bois who counts every single pixel on every phones other than their own iDevices.

bigly, 05 Apr 2017I only care about the raw data, not who is paying who to conduct the display tests. likewise, but I do not like when the raw data has been doctored as a result of large sums of money changing hands.

And yes, I am sure he / she was raging in a little room somewhere with an antiquated Pentium 166Mhz and 32MB RAM with a huge 800MB Bigfoot HDD full of pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Is this a surprise to anyone, best smartphone has to have the best display it's as simple as that.
Joselius, 05 Apr 2017Whats wrong with Pentile? The ppi even increased in S8 despite being bigger. It is 3K display ... morePPI is higher only due to larger screen and thus more pixels going in one direction, not more pixels added to the area of visabiltiy for the Gear VRs two circles.
Anonymous, 05 Apr 2017No! 4 generations in a row.
Note 4: Generation 1
S6/Note 5: Generation 2
S7: Generation 3... moreNo, your wrong
Generations are based in device name time line, The Note does not count.
Samsung Galaxy S = Gen1
Samsung Galaxy S2 = Gen2
Samsung Galaxy S3 = Gen3
Samsung Galaxy S4 = Gen4
Samsung Galaxy S5 = Gen5
Samsung Galaxy S6 = Gen6 has VR
Samsung Galaxy S7 = Gen7 has VR
Samsung Galaxy S8 = Gen8 has VR
Anonymous, 05 Apr 2017No, this is the best screen, I said it clearly. However it's not good for VR because pentile r... moreGet your head on straight, it is not 4 Generations in a row. If it were, then Gear VR would have started on the S4. I think you meant to say, 4 Flagships in a row (counting the Note Series as a Flagship device, which it kind of isn't because the S range are flagship, Note is a premium device, otherwise, 3 devices in a row).
Just saying, I agree, 4K is a must for Gear VR, I hate the image in mine on my S6 Edge.
