YouTube Go beta arrives in India Comments

"YouTube Go is trying to improve video watching experience in regions with comparatively slow internet. It's similar to the regular YouTube for Android app, except that it gives the option to download a video for offline viewing" what the hell Himanshu?
It is not about slow internet, but limited data for those who are in prepaid data mode and ability to share videos to further cut down data usage.
Also downloading or offline feature is not new, its available in main youtube app for long time. Also i am sure in future they will introduce HD version in future updates, remember its just a beta app you are mentioning here.
Its more about having control of data usage unlike official app. Because youtube is losing ad revenue to tubemate and opera mini, which offers better control over data usage for youtube videos plus no ads. Unlike youtube's official app that jumps to higher bitrate with speedy networks.

I dont even understand why You... moreBecause its quite useful atleast here in India where internet becomes literally useless once FUP hits in. For example, we get 1GB a day limit on Jio carrier. Once crossed, the FUP hits in and speed is throttled at 128kbps which obviously is useless for YT streaming. Now this is exactly where 144p of YTG really shines until the new data gets re-allocated at mid-night i.e. 12AM. Hope that makes sense.

like that they're looking for solutions to peoples problems and to get a smooth viewing of a video, downloading is the best idea for it. Although I don't see why they couldn't just add it into their standard app and just limit downloads to like 720p max for everybody, but the risk of stealing music and other creators videos is probs bigger than the reward, 3rd party apps ftw

No problem Google, since this is not available in other countries, we can use a Windows phone or an alternative app to download the videos.
