The remote for vr is hands down better than the past control.. this one takes gaming on a different level

Even if it was to it wouldn't matter, VR basically sees the substructure of pixels due to the magnification involved and since Samsung insists on pentile subpixel arrangement, pixel density is irrelevant as the subpixel density is quite lower than the one suggested from the resolution.
Not only that but interpixel distance is greater (the space between individual subpixels) than in any IPS screen creating a rather hard to enjoy environment. You basically see the individual pixels but *also* the space between them, it looks like a mosaic which kills all the immersion that VR was supposed to bring.
It's like building a car but forgetting to add tires. Sure it will run but who the F would want to run on it?
And don't take me wrong, the current gear VR was fine as a beta product (back in its "innovator's" phase) as it was giving a sneak peak of what the future hold, people were not expecting a full product. But it's almost 3 year since and the darn issues not yet solved, pretty much killing any chance for the product to fly.
If Samsung is determined to sabotage VR let them do it. I just don't get why Occulus/Facebook is collaborating with them still. They quite obviously hold the experience back at this point by using subpar (for VR) panels. It's obvious that Samsung does not believe in VR (as Nokia was not really believing in smartphones back in Nokia navigator's time) but doesn't mean that they are right and even more importantly *necessary*.
They would not be the first to guess the future wrong, Nokia and BlackBerry did that with Smartphones and look at them now. Samsung is similarly wrong about VR, I say Occulus should say "to h*ll with them" and find a willing partner that will actually *believe* in their technology and push it properly.
jesse.clark, 28 Apr 2017Wow, the future is here, yeah it's what we need, everything latest and greatest. Pre-ordering... moreWhat are you talking abut? The whole experience is pretty much what it was 3 years ago ... that's the opposite of innovation, that's stagnation.
[deleted post]My Samsung rep actually gave us Samsung socks. They're stripped and probably the most comfortable socks I've ever worn.
[deleted post]Surprisingly there is a Samsung apparel and socks are the same quality as Burlington. So yeah.

The 5.5" S7 edge was 1440 x 2560 pixels with 534 ppi. Now, the 5.8" S8 is 1440 x 2960 pixels with 570 ppi. It is QHD+ by the way. They care about VR? Maybe not so much. Because they dont develop the Gear VR. It is a collaboration with Facebook's Oculus. Oculus is the real engineer behind Gear VR. Samsung share in this project is merely fitting the Galaxy smartphone into the Gear VR and provide the software. One thing they did improved on the latest one is providing a controller similar to the one used in Google Daydream VR. Also come with usb type C and 101 degree FOV(more than Playstation VR). Gear VR's Home did received an overhaul in this new iteration making it faster and fresh. Samsung also added over 20 games this month and another 50 by next few months. There are over 700 of them if you are wondering. Mobile VR can never be better than standalone VR like the Vive so, dont get your hope too high. Gear VR is only a $99 device and not a $800 HTC Vive (minus the computer and controller and shipping fees).
My only gripe with this is the fact the VR controllers are not Lithium batteries.
Other then that I am excited to use it when mine arrives.
People complaining about quality. It's $100 for the main unit.
It's not going to stack up against and HTC Vive or the main Oculus.
So stop trying to bash it for what it is. Don't like it don't comment on it.
Wow, the future is here, yeah it's what we need, everything latest and greatest. Pre-ordering one now.

So they kill VR by using QHD pentile for 4th time in a row (horrible screen door effect and pixels all over the place) and now they have the gaul to push it?
I mean Samsung decide. Do you care about VR or not? If you do try to (finally) give high quality experience starting with the screen (either 4k,mor RGB stripe or better yet *both*), continue with killer app support (movie watching on public transport anyone?), fix the battery issues caused by VR and lastly allow connection with a PC (like a secondary screen) via USB-C so that to unleash the full capabilities of VR .... you know simple things that you refuse to do for 3 years now ...
So do you -Samsung- care about VR or not? If yes fix it or at least better it, if not stop pushing it, it's as much of a gimmick now as it was 4 years ago given how few steps you made to make it better...
