And audiophile population is very less and most probably would have got a better setup than just a phone+headphone. So phone manufacturers will not think about them when deciding what should be kept inside the retail box. Till now not many used bundled earphones, because of their low quality. If you were provided with a really nice earphone, say like 20-30$ Sony earphones in the box then majority will start using them instead. Don't know about S8's AKG tuned earphones but if manufacturers include earphones with quality comparable to Sony's XB/EX series or Sennheiser's CX 180/275 etc.,. with their flagships at least, then that would be an advantage.
What comes out of the box MUST be:
- obviously, the phone
- charge/sync cable and adaptor
- at least a decent screen protector (thank you, Huawei)
- decent jelly case or better yet a protective pouch
- headphones or earphones
For the generous OEMs:
- accessories like memory card
- extra accessories like battery
- wireless charger
- VR headset
- selfie stick
I only need the phone to be honest. If losing headphones and charger will make it cost less I'd choose that option.
Unboxing your new phone is like opening a present, everyone loves that. So I personally think they should come with more stuff inside, specially flagships with a high price.
Phones should come in a box like the Elite X3. Although HP could have bumped the price up a bit and thrown in the wireless PC.
In my opinion, phone manufacturers should do two version of the box. One with the bare minimum and one with everything.
I don't mind about the headset as I have a pair of headphones that I love and normally forget about the ones in the box. About the cables, if the phone is USB C a couple of adapters would be nice. Finally, if the phone supports fast charging, a fast capable charger it's a must.
But then, I guess it depends on the phone price. My last two phones being Xiaomi I don't expect much for the price.

Because that's at least the retail price of the charger plus mediocre headphones that manufactuters pack with the phones.
Frankly I'm shocked at the responses. At this point I have an army of chargers lying around and my own favorite headphones. I really wish I didnt have to pay for additional ones that I have no idea to do with anymore, they add to the cost of the phone, aren't as good as what you can get on your own and add to electronic waste.
Don't really need that much stuff
Fast Charger (that is as good as the 3T's Dash Charger), some nice sounding earphones, OTG Cable, and throw in a fire extinguisher - just in case that disasters happen
If I'm paying over 500$, i expect absolutely everything to be included (usb, fast charger, headphones, tempered glass screen protector and a case) Just like Alcatel with their idol 4s (they included everything, JBL headphones and incipio case and everything mentioned above).
Some companies demand 700$+ and they never even bother to include an adapter for their phones without headphones
A charger with a long USB cable. Long please.
Other than that, I don't mind.
mir, 08 May 2017Its actually just tuned by AKG and still made by Samsung.Maybe because Harman is a Samsung owned company? Obviously it's made by Harman/Samsung and tuned by AKG which is a Harman brand.
I don't think it matters all that much but good headphones are always a boon.
[deleted post]You still haven't moved on... Samsung already recalled those Note 7's last year.
