I have an iPad mini 4 gsmarena and I'm in latest updated 10.3.2. This Apple not Android, iPad mini selling better than 9.7 might be this the reason why Apple want to stop it.
I don't like the iPad mini's closed iOS eco-system but I definitely feel there is a great use for mini tablets (7-8.5 inches). It's because not everyone has/uses phablets for reading books/watching movies and when you are on-the-go, it's easier to use a mini tablet since it's screen is large & comfortable yet it's more easier to handle than a full-sized tablet.
If Apple had released an iPad Pro 7.9 in March 2016, at the same time as the iPad Pro 9.7, it would have sold well (providing it had the same specs, eg. A9X Chipset).
The iPad Mini 2 has been the only iPad Mini to have the same performance as the 9.7" model. Since then the range has been sabotaged.
The iPad Air 2 (A8X Chipset) and the iPad Pro 9.7 (A9X Chipset) have simply left the iPad Mini dead in the water.
Makes sense to kill the iPad Mini. It was never a concept Jobs was in favour of and tablet sales as a whole for both Android and iOS have declined consistently. That's because smartphones have never been more capable than now. They have big screens. Loud speakers and large batteries. Its redundant having a slightly bigger device. Actual tablets like the iPad Pro etc could possibly replace actual computers but I'm sceptical. Laptops are so light and portable. Battery life is massive on those devices so I see bigger tablets going out as well eventually.

IPad mini isalmost A6 sized. Everything would seem tiny in it.
What we need is a textbook sized screen. A 10.5 3:2 iPad with minimal bezels and weight.

Lets face it. This is all about profit.
If something's a poor seller they will drop it. But it is unfair that no updates for the iPad mini 4 have been issued since 2015.
What's needed is a re issued iPad mini with an expansion card slot and 4 gig of ram and aim it at students, businesses and medical establishments including hospitals it would sell like hot cakes at the right price.
Crappy update cycle, 17 May 2017Yeah. Neglected specs = Neglected sales. Tim Cook can shoot himself for not seeing this. ... moreand ur ipad mini 1 wont get any update anymore because ios 11 support 64bit only ....
Gilda, 17 May 2017A. Not everyone likes enormous phones.
B. The larger tablets cannot be gripped in one hand l... moreDepending on the hand size they can.
They are as big as books, they are easy to handle.
They only have to become lighter still
Sony came close with tablet Z4 ... Unfortunately the trend did not continue.
Savor , 17 May 2017Like the millions of people who stopped buying tablets. Doesn't matter if Apple discontinued t... moreYou live in a fantasy world. It's the best selling type of computer after phones and will continue being so for years.
Read the reports for once:
Makes sense too. People hunger for big screens that are relatively light.
Yeah. Neglected specs = Neglected sales.
Tim Cook can shoot himself for not seeing this.
Who will buy a Mini .. which stuck 2 cycles in A7 chip.. then A8? When the other iDevices is already A9?
I was a happy owner of iPad mini gen 1, was waiting for mini 3.. to discover theres no change in specs from mini 2. Then they release A8 (one year old tech) on a mini4??? So in the end i ditch upgrading all together.. since mini1 still working.
No one will buy iPad mini this year, if they ever choose to release with A10. (Should be A11chip)
Well this is disappointing. I personally think they should release it in a 2~3 year cycle instead of outright getting rid of it but oh well. The problem with tablets is people don't need to upgrade it every year unlike phones. That's the main reason it ain't selling.
I quite like the iPad mini range. It's the mid size 9.7 that I care less about. You either have a small tablet like the mini or full on massive size like the 12.7 in my opinion.
its because you cupertinos never really into it when making an iPad mini. look at the spec given. it sucks. no wonder the sales number are 'that clear'. instead making a better spec for the mini, they just born a new 9.7 one
Anonymous, 16 May 2017Not really. With phones up to 7 inches big these days I struggle to see their relevance. Also ... moreA. Not everyone likes enormous phones.
B. The larger tablets cannot be gripped in one hand like the iPad mini.
C. Not comfortable to hold for extended periods of time.
