Plus add to the fact that those GPUs need lots of power. It would just last as long as an iPhone7 with dual 1080s in SLI. I think a Radeon RX 580 is a much more better fit as it offers decent performance and power consumption.

Today with billions of 10-14nm transistors at around 3300MHz, it's FAR harder to achieve any further significant gain.

70% performance improvement over 5 years...come on...Intel is on a go slow. I remember Intel improving performance by 70% in one go. It's 1992 all over again. Back then, if you upgraded your 486 33MHz CPU to 486 66MHz CPU you got a...wait for it...70% speed increase. This is all about taking the computer buying public for a ride. Intel are clearly in the business of selling computers that are only just fast enough. In 5 years you will need a faster computer. A public spirited company would today sell a computer that was 70% too fast, so that in 5 years it would still be fast enough. And in doing so, there would only be no need to buy top end CPUs along with there extortionate prices!

The price is ludicrously high for a good spec laptop. Its shame because the screen is so poor on the Macbook Air and the new Macbook has the old butterfly key mechanism compared to the new pro.

mir, 17 May 2017People who just bought their brand new macbooks are gonna be so mad.Doubtful. I've got the latest MBP 2016 model and I'm not really fussed if Apple brings out a new range. It might have some upgraded components within but that aside, it'll be much the same. I still love my macbook and use it every single day.

Hate waiting!, 17 May 2017Refresh Macbook lineup??? Hey Apple.. Hey. Mac mini is more then 900 days old. valid point! when it comes to computers i can't see a strategy at all at apple.

on the other hand - at this point we know nothing. maybe we should just wait what they will do in fact.

Based on how new the MacBook Pros are it to me would seem unlikely that they would be shown off so soon, otherwise, it will anger consumers. MacBook Air refresh would make sense considering it has not been updated since March 2015 and would be nice to see at least one standard USB port if they choose to move to USB-C. A MacBook refresh would also make sense with a processor upgrade.

This is common. They usually update their Macbook line every 6 months.

Macbook Air sales are strong, because pricewise it's the entry level macbook. You can purchase a 13", 8GB ram, 128GB flashdrive macbook air at around USD800 form bestbuy or microcenter.
In Turkey list price of 13" Macbook pro without touch bar is 7.000TRY, and macbook air 13" with the specs mentioned above is 4.000 TRY. Last night a retail chain listed it with 3.600 TRY. That's almost half the price. Macbook air is poor man's entry to macos world right now.

I prefer Radeon to GTX for portable Macs. Nvidia sure is good, but runs hot / battery drain / and heavy. AMD cards is power efficient, thin and light, stuff you need in portable Macs.

IMO They shouldn't upgrade MacBooks.. They should focus on Mac Pro / Mac Mini / iMacs.

I will only switch if they will put a GTX 1070 for the low end macs and GTX 1080 for MID level and SLI GTX 1080 for the Mac Book Pro . If they put GPUs like these, Mac will beat most PC laptops in the market and this time Mac would no longer be branded as a weak Hardware

it seems that apple is losing it's magic.

not hating here. but apple did some things in the past 2 or 3 years that make me wonder what is going on.

some desings were odd. the macbook with one usb port or like the way you charge the apple pencil. talking about the pencil - steve jobs wouldn't agree on something like this. a pencil yes, the way you charge it - NO. not in a million years he would allow to sell something like this made by apple.

now the possible (internal) redesign of the macbook pro with better hardware just a couple of months after the last update... what does that mean for the resale value? this is a really important issue for may apple customers. even after 4 or 5 years you get good money for a used macbook. is this going to change?

its almost like steve jobs spirit is leaving apple every day a bit more. sad thing...
