I've been saying for years that Android no longer offers any choice. Either it's 5+ or go home. Those of us wanting a compact, portable, smartphone are left out in the dust.
Anonymous, 21 May 20175.0 - 5.5 inch is ideal size. For you, mate. For you.
AnonD-647900, 21 May 2017Why is everyone bashing this poll, it's just to provide you a general idea of people's screen ... morebut maybe 4.7in would have been the ideal screen size if there was the option, how about that?
"Width is the most important factor in ergonomics, so weÂ’re sure weÂ’ll be seeing many more phones go over 16:9 aspect ratio." nailed it
Raphi7, 21 May 2017Well they explained that there are a small number of phones having sub-5 inch screens in 2017,... moreYes but if you only asked, What's the best screen size, below 4.5 or above 5.5, and leave out everything in the middle, more people are going to say "above 5.5" and then your conclusion will be, oh people prefer bigger phone these days.
Or if you --only-- gave options 5.2" or below, everyone who prefers bigger would choose 5.2 and you'd have the same conclusion, but it would be totally flawed and not at all representative of people's opinions.
The --real-- problem is that, sure, there aren't many options under 5", but running a poll that even excludes the options means that there's NOO chance to even guage whether people might actually want that - and perhaps seeing that there's enough demand here, on a big site like GSMA, might actually give manufacturers the idea that making a small flagship could be lucrative.
And finally, it could well be that the most popular individual screen size is actually the 5.5, but because everyone who likes 5.2" -or- below all collectively voted for that option, the results are severely skewed and not at all indicative of the actual opinion.
Fundamentally flawed survey, no question.
I chose 5.2" because it the closest size available for those wanting a smaller-sized phone. 4.7" should have been included in the poll at least, since iPhone 7 is not yet leaving the range, while most competitors are totally moving out without considering that there's still a market for that. Ughh
I just got a $200 32gb iPhone SE from Best Buy night. I need it to replace my Moto E2 because that phone would refresh my Dasher app alot and not keep it in memory. I am typing on the SE with SwiftKey right now. My first iPhone I bought since the 4. It is a bit of a struggle adjusting and typing to itS size. Still prefer my G5 and V20 more. But for pocketability, very nice again. My V10 can feel way too bulky after holding it awhile.
Anonymous, 21 May 2017Some people equate screen size with the phone size. You can have a bigger display at 5.5" and ... moreYes they do, and rightly so, because not every phone (or tablet) has zero or ultra thin bezels. Screen size is still the only proper (or sensible) way to gauge a phones (or tablets) overall size, until bezel size has to meet a standard or become more uniform across devices.
AnonD-647900, 21 May 2017Why is everyone bashing this poll, it's just to provide you a general idea of people's screen ... moreBecause it is biased towards larger screen phones, which is not what 'everyone' wants or needs. But then you would have gathered that if you had bothered to read such replies...
Some people equate screen size with the phone size. You can have a bigger display at 5.5" and yet overall phone still small physically.
Why is everyone bashing this poll, it's just to provide you a general idea of people's screen preferences. I agree with it 5.2"-5.5" is the ideal size.
Not a fair poll. I cant vote for 5" or under 5".
And additionally you brought the argument that there only 12 phones from 2017 with a display to 4.9" but there are phones from 4.9"-5.1" and before 2017 like the iPhone 7/6s and the Galaxy S7 which got 100m+ sells and I cant vote for.
sr777, 21 May 2017You got 5.2 because it was the smallest option given in choices. Nice way to conduct a survey. Well they explained that there are a small number of phones having sub-5 inch screens in 2017, and most are cheap phones who do not have the budget for bigger screens, thats why they are not represented here as they do not have the number to make them significant and are not popular right now (unlike width screen weird ratio screens)
AnonD-144526, 21 May 2017Even 5.8 is fine for me if its a Galaxy S8 but nobody does that much better job at screen to b... moreXiaomi did it better (greater BtS rate) and also did it without cheating (weird aspect ratio and edged screen).
So yes bezeless can be some better that Samsung's way.
I had to choose 5.2 as that was your minimum. I would prefer between 4.7 and 5.1 inch (narrow bezels, smallest possible). Not a fair poll.
