Frankly, I can't see a use in this as I also prefer flat displays, but I guess this is good for people who will actually find innovative use for this.

If the display wraps around a smartphone, there'll be no place to hold, unless....think about it.

Claudiu.Lucian, 22 May 2017I like stiff plain displays, any curve is just for design and marketing, not for utility.stretchy screens will not break easily for one.

Claudiu.Lucian, 22 May 2017I like stiff plain displays, any curve is just for design and marketing, not for utility.Very few people liked digital cameras when they came out either... or motor vehicles... or electricity.

Maybe this won't be too functional in the next couple of years but I am certain it will lead to technology that allows ipad size devices to become pocketable down the track.

Anonymous, 22 May 2017Gimmick this type of tech is decades away and even then I doubt it will have useful function. ... moreI hope you know you're only speaking for yourself, right?

"No new tech is required". The opposite, you meant. All new tech are welcome and the entire world should be seeking the creation of new technology.

What you are saying is complete madness and every tech enthusiast should be pulling their eyes out when some unhappy soul like you decides to type without thinking.

Claudiu.Lucian, 22 May 2017I like stiff plain displays, any curve is just for design and marketing, not for utility.Imagine an Amazon Echo cylinder box which has a display wrapped all the way around it, showing information regardless of where you are in the room, instead of the ugly Echo Show that was presented a few days ago. Imagine a bracelet which is all display.

If you think even 5 years ahead you will realize that flexible and bendable displays are part of our future.

Seems like the first step to displays that can be stretched to larger sizes.

Man, you guys are so skeptical of everything. It's always nice to see cool technologies. Let them do their thing. There is no point in bashing now.

Wow. The only use I can think of for the 1,96 inch UHD display would be VR with Google Glass-like lenses.

A 2d res screen has 2 dimensions like 16 in by 9 in
So a 3d display should have 3 logically , and this dimensions gonna be low to be crunched into less than 1 cm thick phone

All 3 of those are not really needed. We need brighter OLEDs and cheaper OLEDs which can be produced in higher amounts so that they'll also be used on low end TVs

Gimmick this type of tech is decades away and even then I doubt it will have useful function.

Just make 5.5 inch bezeless phone and it's as small as the iPhone, probably smaller. Fix palm rejection ... done. No new tech is required just an elaboration of those we already have.
