Anonym, 25 May 2017By "“Premium Standard” they meant premium-priced standard phones. I wonder why it failed?Because the price of those midrangers are already kind of the flagship prive already. Plus the specs sometimes do not satisfy the person due to the price

Bought it for 300 euro and am very satisfied with it (screen, UI, software stability, memory, sound quality, camera, radio etc.). Sorry to hear about Sony plans. There is definitely a market for premium midrange phones!

Man Sony need drop that price..
This makes sense. It's actually a good thing. Yes just focus on the super flagships and then the inexpensive phones. Ditch the one in the middle. Nobody buys them. They're like the phones that are pretending to be flagship with flagship prices but only have basic power like midrangers.
I'm happy to hear they will try to bring new devices also to offer more what others cannot. XA1 is great example with its camera sensor better than previous flagships, and sharper than current ones. I hope they wont offer just better camera, screen or small change in design, look what all you get with S8, all sensors that exist and processor, memory,... their own. I think its possible to create premium mid range, such you will be deciding between that and hi end, for now only chinese brands are in this category, considering their prices. I would love premium device every half year in stead of horde of some standard, but they quite lag is sensors, battery capacity, "gears"... Just when can I see change, this fall or maybe next, I wish they would be clear, things coming from microsoft and samsung next year go beyond ordinary phones, just how they will take that on...?
Sony will put meego sailfish os on sony x1, they have an agreement with the jolla company
How about they give up on those mediocre Mediatek chipsets? Maybe then they will sell something.
Overpriced, huge bezels, ugly design, poor marketing bla bla bla... How much you can post these non sense comments? Have you used any Sony phone? Sony phones built to last longer. Sony's UI has lowest crash rate. It is the smoothest android UI out there. Sony phones have long battery life with little batteries. And can work faster with less ram. What do you want more from phone? Or do you like Samsung phones with soap girly design and heavy laggy UI that will slow down after few months? Even Sony XZs beats S8 with weaker hardware. It is because of perfect software optimisation. Even my Z3 works smooth till now.
No need to discontinue that line.. Just use amoled screens better audio quality better camera software fast charge big battery and less heating phones and make sure that they are advertised well, keep it in a price range that everyone wants to buy. There it is. It's is for a tech giant like Sony..

The XZ Premium actually achieved more battery life than the Z5 Premium in PhoneArena's battery test even though Z5P had 200mAh more battery. User experience is not defined by specs alone, if it were, the XZP, S8, and U11 would have similar benchmark scores.
Using ZU, Z3 amazing good, but C5 & M5 overheat & pricey with awful NTK soc (even xiaomi use SD), hard focus camera (c5), screen easy to crack (not as bad galaxy S3 (the worse ever after N7)).
AnonD-206292, 25 May 2017Sony XA lineup is joke, with that low battery and SOC. So basically there is only low end phon... moreThis is sometimes the problem with people, they take specs as a total reflection of the experience when it isn't. The 2300mAh battery in the XA1 was a beast for a 2300mAh battery, and this was using GSMArena's new testing standard.(If they used the old one it probably would have gotten even higher) 72hr for a 2300mAh battery is no joke and perhaps it would open your eyes to how user experience is not defined by specs alone.
You bring devices into the market with mediocre battery capacity and performance and yet you complain about your profits. lol... Even your XZ premium series will be a failure with that 3230 Mah battery. You come with innovative stuffs like 960 fps, HDR QHD display and yet you give the phone a sub par battery. The phone won't survive even for a day with such a battery capacity when someone want to use the phone's camera/video recorder to shoot or if they want to watch videos in that 4k screen or to use the GPS. The HTC U11 on other hand had topped in DxO with a score of 90,while breaking the record of google pixel XL. It is ridiculous to see the HTC offers U11 a 3000 Mah battery despite of all the epic features. I am unsure, how you guys try to make fool of consumers? In reality,it is the company who is gonna get fooled with their stupid ideas. Efficient processor and battery that you claim is all farce. I haven't upgraded my smartphone yet for the very same reason. Glad I am using a Nokia Lumia 1520 which comes with a 3400 Mah battery that I bought four years ago.
Anonymous, 25 May 2017How is it better? Samsung can cater all price range, from low, mid and high end. While Sony ca... moreExcept that Samsung's low end phones are crap IMO compared to other similarly priced phones here in the Philippines. You pay $100 for a qHD screen and a MT6737 chipset when you can get MT6753 and 720p screen for $60 here. Sony had great low end phones before, but they were in a financial crisis after that. That's when they started streamlining their product line.
I have an X and am disappointed that Sony will not be continuing this line. The 5.0" size is perfect (used to have Z1 Compact which was too small and Z3 which was too big), has a far better metal back and has features like FM Radio the Sony are now stupidly dropping. Reviewers did not know what they were talking about when reviewing this phone as criticised the Snapdragon 650 even though similar to a more efficient 810 and has all the performance you could ever need in real life usage (Ibky idiots would care a about pformance benchmarks for a phone). I also got it at an absolute bargain price of £210 import to UK from Hong Kong - soooo ooo much better value with the "flagship" models costing more than double this not offering any significant real life benefit over the X.
AnonD-664474, 25 May 2017It's actually better.
Not too many phones like Samsung.
But they should do this technique:... moreI think this is a good idea. Make the flagship releases at IFA and actually release within the same week. This will combat Apple's release schedule.
Then the mid-rangers at MWC.
With these lines xa compact:(4.6 720p) xa2:(5.0 1080p) Xa ultra2:(5.5 1080p ) @ MWC
XZ compact:(4.6 1080p), xz2:(5.2 4k), xz Premium 2:(5.5 4k)
I hope the Sony's IFA this year, but how about that X1?
In other words, only XA and XZ product lines will be continued.
