[deleted post]i think u dont read news paper...china and india r the biggest market of mobile phone industries.these two country has more than 1.6 billion user...indian and chinese people know the value of money...iphone is overpriced hyped phone...only rich people can buy it bcoz they dont know which phone they should buy. .they bought which is related to..iphone is like a beautiful prostitute. .u can sex with her but can not merried with her..there is no meaning to buy a iphone if it can`t connected to network. ....

Android came out in 2008. Hardly "only just"
Iphone was not far ahead at the end of 2007 so if you look at it that way they're both of similar age in the market. Consider also that Android is available on handsets made by nearly all manufacturers, then it shows that it aint that good - people still want iOS as they know what they're getting & that they'll get at least 2 major OS updates. As opposed to Android where you wait for months after the latest version has been released & then you find updates withdrawn & delayed. Then after you've received 1 update you're told that there'll be no more as the company wants to sell you a different phone.
the original iphone has only just stopped being supported.
My HTC legend is less than a year old & is no longer supported by HTC.
I'm glad I also got an iphone & I'll stick with them from now on thanks. I've had more updates from them in 6 months than all my other previous phones combined.

& the fragmentation refers to the fact that you can still buy Android phones brand new with Android 1.6 right through to 2.3
Several Apps won't work with different versions of android. I'd say that's pretty fragmented. Wouldn't you.
& as for iphone not being a smartphone - that's laughable. Unjailbroken it still has more capability than over half the android phones out there. Jailbroken & it's a very powerful piece of hardware.
I have both a HTC legend & an iphone & I can tell you that iOS beats android hands down.

i m not surprised with that apple has more user than android in US..it would be a history in coming years bcoz now android is still in beta stage and will be stable in icecream version...btw ipod is not fall under mobile phone device...open source OS will always rule against apple closed OS crap....

Hey, get a clue. Here is a study of the most sold phones in the developped markets and it shows that Android rocks:

and because the iPhones went under the Androids now the Apple supporters are counting iOS devices. When all android devices (tablets included) surpass iOS then they will count all the apples in the grocery store to prove that they are bigger - pathetic :-)
