When you just built a $750 pc with 8gb of ram...

Because sure as heck is slower than OnePlus 3T ... If even Google's very own stock experience is slower then I'm free to blame the hardware, I'm sorry.
Software does make a big difference between disparate systems. But all androids are extremely similar, so the only remaining difference is hardware.
Put low ram and your phone will be slower, one thing can't happen out of software, grow more hardware.
No, I blame OEMs who try to save a petty penny.
Expect 8GB OnePlus 5 to dominate *again*. That's how ram caching works. Eventually all your apps get cached and your system ... *flies*.

It's only because these companies do not... moreWhat Apple did with 3gb of ram was not optimization, it was cutting of background processes. That means no tasker, no messenger chatheads, means no true multitasking. What Apple did was to mangle the OS and turn it into a sandbox experience, that's the opposite of optimization.
It's like wanting to have less weight on your plane so that to achieve lift and you throw away the engines ... It's self defeating and one of the primary reasons why IOS is still a weak OS. Also a reason why it's easy to be secured as well as why it is fast. That's*not* optimization, that's throwing the baby with the bathwater.
Good for busy person.
Anonymous, 07 Jun 2017Spreading lies again. 4GB $900 phones are slower than 6GB no names from last year. https://ww... moreNot sure you know how ram works. A particular application only gets faster if there wasn't enough ram to run it in the first place. An app will only load faster if there wasn't enough free ram to switch it open straightaway in the first place (or if it was already in memory). Since all the ram being compared here is of the same type (lpddr4), there is no clock speed difference that can be attributed to it. If you notice a speed difference associated with certain devices with different amounts of ram, blame the manufacturer for memory use optimization, or for bloatware on top of stock Android (looking at you, TouchWiz).

https://ww... moreOf course Ram is the most important thing on android. It's only because these companies do not spend enough resources for optimization. What apple can do with 3GB is better then most of the android flagships with 4 or 6GB.
For me it's absurd that a phone in these days needs more than 4GB. But hey, throw in as much as RAM as possible and Apple will still be faster.
P.S: Nexus user

You're in denial. Ram is the most important thing on android. Even the slower soc didn't matter. The phone with more ram always win app launch and day to day tests...
Assume: there are two variants of OnePlus 5. One is regular 8GB RAM version and another one is 100GB RAM version. Which one will you buy guys? ;)
As per 2017 Android OS standards, 4GB RAM is huge enough and will be for the upcoming year. The facts now are: the RAM and ROM R/W speed, cache memory size, maximum frequency, GPU quality. RAM is a minor issue if it is more than 3.5GB.
Only in certain markets.
The iPhone 7 has about 70% faster single core performance. SnapDragon really needs to pull its socks up!
^, 07 Jun 20178GB RAM is damn powerful. But the phone looks like the Iphone 7Plus at the back.so what if it looks like iphone 7 plus , if they invent a new design will ran out of any ideas in the future
now more and more phones will have 8GB ram,in the past few years if you had 1Gb of ram you was the coolest
It doesn't matter how much RAM you put in, it can't hold few apps just reloads currently experiencing from 3T. Plz OnePlus bring in 5incher with same specs and I'm up for preorder as I'd done with 3T. Awesommmmee. I know you Oneplus guys would look up for suggestion in gsmarena.
bharcooldude, 07 Jun 2017Powerful?! Pray tell in what way? Multitasking, ram caching. You know the important stuff on android.
Nobody compiles or plays extremely demanding games. Everybody multitasks, everybody loads stuff from memory.
Ram is the most important component on phone performance. Like last year oneplus will dominate and fanboys would *still* be in denial of the importance of ram...

In case you missed it 2017 android flagships have issues with multitasking still.
Stop being such a fanboy and demand good service from other "flagships" too instead of trying to will OnePlus to their level. 2nd year in a row that the fastest android would be a no name from China ... I guess it will spite fanboys once again.
There is no such thing as too much ram.
Androids RAM Management is a joke.
