Which I can say, that even in the article it states that even though made in 2010 MicroLED up til recently, really wasn't ready for the market, it had problems with color reproduction, burn in, and refresh rates. OLED was the alternative, and it worked.

While yes, it is more power efficient then LCD, being that it uses an LED backlight, it still consumes much more energy than OLED...MAYBE with the onset of Quantum Dot, normal LEDs can catch up in efficiency. There's also size, normal LED screens need more thickness to them for the backlighting, where OLEDs can be super thin. (again Quantum Dots can change this).

As for display quality, honestly its personal preference, Contrast differential is getting close enough to almost be undistinguishable, and OLEDs are getting better with combating image retention. Each screen type has its benefits and shortcomings...but for a small wearable I can definetly see why MicroLED or OLED would be choice.

Polius, 08 Jun 2017Introducing retina microLED. Innovation....since 2010.I think it will be an innovation for Apple since they were the first ones to use it for consumer electronics. (Unless if there is something else, I dunno)

I really hope that Apple will introduce microLED and advance the technology to the point where we will have it in smartphones. AMOLED is absolute garbage, i ditch phones which have AMOLED displays like the plague. they are plagued with dozens of problems. And anyone who has a bit of sense for screen technology agrees to this.

I never understood why phone manufacturers use AMOLED in phones instead of regular LED. OLED is garbage because it has organic component (that's what the "O" in OLED stands for). LCD is much better than (AM)OLED, because all OLED screens are going to burn in and have much shorter lifespan. Maybe a regular LED screen will have much longer lifespan, maybe it will be comparable to the LCD.
