There were people who were abusing the system like uploading 1.8 Petabytes of data (just go /r/Datahoarder). That's why they switched to limited and of course, everything happened to the innocent.

TERRIBLE bait-and-switch campaign by Amazon!
I'm a Mumbai based Photographer with over 2 TB of data and after extensive reviewing was going to go for CrashPlan which was near identical to the Amazon Cloud Drive (ACD) however, I mistakenly went with Amazon just because they're a large co.
They lured everyone with the prospect of a 'Truly Unlimited Storage' only to change their terms and conditions as soon as they bagged enough customers.
I should have gone for CrashPlan whose terms are still the same as they have been for a long time.
Goes without saying, Amazon - never again!
I really don't like Amazon practice of charging subscriptions. I got the $60 plan on promo and when it come time to be charged they never warn you ahead of time or send a single email. The same with Prime and Audible.
