Yea you said it yourself...The latest/fastest CPU is all you (think you) wanted, so they could have put even smaller battery, removed the 3.5mm jack...wouldn't matter. People like you will buy anyway.

Yes, I bought one, and Yes I am exited. I was waiting for this phone for a long time. I would like to mention that not everyone is looking for IP rating or bigger battery or some other things this phone doesn't have (OIS, Wireless charging). Did You noticed it has US and EU LTE bands? Dual sim? Aptx codec? Body that will not shatter when falling to the ground? I am not the guy that buys phone in order to wrap it in protection cases so it is bulkier and the nice finish of the phone is ruined. I also don't get it, why there is such a fuzz around those super long screens, or edge to edge design. I guess I just want a really fast phone that works and doesn't kill my wallet with features that other phones lack and matter to me. Thanks OnePlus.

For better or for worst Apple locks you in their own proprietary ecosystem. You can love their hardware (quality above everything) but absolutely hate the whole lock-down thing, a position I can definitely identify with.
The proper point is (probably) haven't we already reached a price-point in which the "affordable" option is dangerously near the industry leaders that take all risks to boost the innovation which will only latter make-it to "others". Why not support the leaders then? In this regard OP only trump card is community support (3rd-party ROMs), which I do love, but it turns-out (true) community developers (which are unpaid/unsponsored) are not a given neither work exclusively to OP.

It is the fastest selling "one plus" device which in all honesty isn't much to boast about since op historically have had very low sales. Good for sustainability not for profits or expansion

One thing to be noted, which many will miss - All BBK phones (OPPO,VIVO and now One+) ,which look like iphone, have some or the other claim of records.
Point in common is - Iphone replicas / lookalikes.
It prooves that people like to be like apple and yet they love to hate it. They have market stand coz of apple, which they never acknowledge.

I'm sure he is lying. S8 is fastest selling, iPhone 7 is fastest selling, LG G6 is fastest selling, HTC U11 is fastest selling, now OP 5 is fastest selling. Too much BS to swallow. In fact all this bs is intended for shareholders. On many markets Samsung and HTC dropping prices quickly (definitely because of huge demand... :)))) ) In fact it's really easy to claim than something is fastes selling. Take some period of time ( say one day) compare with the same day of previous year and if you now sold 1 device more you can claim that this model is the fastest selling. Pretty much the same like cheating benchmarks. In fact I'm sure that non of the devices (S8, U11, G6, OP5 etc) are selling really well.

At first there is registration of the phone, they still have no idea what kind of "good" phone it is. Then, after so many registrationz the phone is finally released. When it is released those who registered realised it is a bad phone, but they registered for it. This is how they say it is the "best" selling OnePlus

Look at all the "hot or not" polls. Everything is hot, including phones with no 3.5mm jack. They are so brainwashed they'll buy anything new and expensive enough ("Premium").
I get the impression that putting the latest CPU (And a HIGH enough price) is now enough to make people excited. They are acting like we are in the 00s (Or in a 4th world country) and amartphones are a huge deal.
