Apple approached Imagination Tech.before about a merger but Imagination refused it. The owners could be setting on 1 billion pound and working for Apple but no, now they settle for 400 million.

Now its time... moreBut you have to admit that Imagination Technologies would not have become the player they are today without Apple as a customer. No other larger ARM designer next to Apple uses PowerVR GPUs.
What has Imagination done in the last 10 years to become independent from Apple? Apple has been a loyal customer over the last 10 years. So another question is what has Imagination done to make Apple end the relationship?
Maybe Apple has become disappointed about Imagination because other companies like Qualcomm have surpassed PowerVR's latest graphics performance so that Apple had no other choice to look for an inhouse solution.
Maybe Apple has simply made the strategic decision to design its own GPU since they it doesn't want to spend a ton of money on external GPUs neither for Mac nor the iPhone.
Since VR and AR become more and more important on mobile and desktop platforms, Apple might felt it necessary to control the key element GPU for mastering this trend.

I think apple will go for Mali G71-G72 as they are much more powerful GPUs.

I really hope anyone of apple's competitors buy them. Because apple announced that on purpose so their stocks would fall down and they can buy them a lot cheaper. I really hope mediatek or hisilicon or qualcomm or even samsung or arm buy them so apple can't get what it wants.
