I think the extra thickness is to protect users from radiation. The amount of radiation from iPhone4 is already hight to acknowledged limits.

And people would anticipate the iphone5 than a white iPhone 4.

Apple should have been honest and stated that the White Iphone 4 is more superior and thatz why, it's fat, but Mr Jobs thought that no one would buy black.
But anyways black iphoe 4 will have few sales as people would def be waiting for iphone 5.
